Democrat Phil Bredesen, who is running for the seat of retiring U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), claims he wants to end hyper-partisanship in Washington.
The Tennessee Republican Party said in a press release it is clear, however, that the worst partisans are members of Bredesen’s party.
“Senate Democrats engaged in a shameful display yesterday, rudely interrupting Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing a 76 times,” the Tennessee Republican Party said. “The Democrats further admitted their behavior was pre-planned and had nothing to do with any substantive opposition to Judge Kavanaugh.”
Bredesen says he isn’t afraid to call out members of his own party when they take a wrong turn. But Bredesen and members of his campaign refused to comment on the antics members of his own party unleashed at Tuesday’s U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Brett Kavanaugh in the Judiciary Committee.
No one in the Bredesen campaign returned The Tennessee Star’s repeated requests for comment Tuesday.
Bredesen has remained noticeably silent on the episode, perhaps because he’s accepted tens of thousands of dollars from Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee.
“Confirming judicial nominees is one of the most important duties of a United States Senator, yet Phil Bredesen refuses to say where he stands,” said Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Scott Golden. “He refuses to say how he would vote on the eminently qualified Brett Kavanaugh; he refuses to say how he would have voted on the eminently qualified Neil Gorsuch; and now he refuses to condemn the nakedly partisan and childish antics of his own party.
“Tennesseans deserve to know where the candidates stand on the important issue of judicial appointments to the highest courts in the land. Marsha Blackburn has made clear her support for judges and justices who will uphold the Constitution. Why can’t Phil Bredesen?”
Democrats began working out a strategy last weekend to oppose Kavanaugh’s nomination by claiming Republicans refused to release 148,000 pages of classified documents related to the judge’s previous case history.
That claim is false.
In mid-August, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, wrote to his Democrat colleagues with an offer to facilitate access to specific confidential records that Democrat members wish to discuss during the open session of the confirmation hearing. His letter is available to read here.
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was the only Democratic senator to respond to Grassley’s request – and she asked for only 12 pages, to which Grassley agreed.
If Bredesen was in the Senate he would vote NO on Kavanaugh without a doubt. He wouldn’t vote NO for the stated reasons that Schumer, Feinstein, Blumenthal and Wyden will vote NO (that Kavanaugh does not support Judeo values of abortion on demand, open borders and special rights for homosexuals and other sexual perversions). He would latch on to something like “Kavanaugh doesn’t support the middle class” or some other generic “reason” to vote the way Schumer tells him to vote.
Birds of a feather flock together. In this case, …….buzzards.
Mr. Bredesen seems to be having a very difficult time responding because of the rock he has slithered behind.
Sure he does! If you vote for a Democrat you are going to get more of the same they march in lock step and NO ONE, NOT EVEN THE POSSUM BREAKS RANK. He is bought and paid for by the democrats and if he know knows what’s good for him to increase his good fortunes he will go along with whatever they say to do.
