Minnesota’s Rep. Emmer Accuses DCCC of ‘Meddling’ in Impeachment Proceedings

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN-06) recently accused the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) of “meddling in the official impeachment hearings against President Donald Trump.”

Emmer currently serves as the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, the GOP counterpart to the DCCC. His accusation came after a report from The Washington Post exposed the details of a number of focus groups the DCCC conducted in key battleground states.

The Post reported:

Several Democrats have stopped using the term “quid pro quo,” instead describing “bribery” as a more direct summation of Trump’s alleged conduct.

The shift came after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee conducted focus groups in key House battlegrounds in recent weeks, testing messages related to impeachment. Among the questions put to participants was whether “quid pro quo,” “extortion” or “bribery” was a more compelling description of Trump’s conduct. According to two people familiar with the results, which circulated among Democrats this week, the focus groups found “bribery” to be most damning. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the results have not been made public.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said “bribery” is a more accessible term and noted that it’s explicitly cited in Article II of the Constitution.

Emmer said it’s “completely inappropriate” for the DCCC to share the results of its focus groups with House leaders involved in the impeachment process.

“It’s quite ironic to see House Democrats so openly politicize the legislative branch of the federal government in these sham impeachment proceedings with poll-tested verbiage from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee,” said Emmer, using the term “meddling” to describe the DCCC’s actions.

“This is another nail in the coffin of a socialist Democrat majority hellbent on throwing our country into a constitutional crisis without fact or merit because they cannot accept the fact that President Trump won the 2016 election,” he added. “Make no mistake about it – Democrats will lose the House next November over this unhealthy impeachment obsession.”
