TN-5 candidate and former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Beth Harwell, in an exclusive statement sent to The Tennessee Star, lauded the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
“The Supreme Court made the right decision by overturning Roe v. Wade. I believe we must protect the right of the unborn and make sure those who can’t defend themselves have a voice,” Harwell said.
The congressional hopeful is enthusiastic about the role Tennessee is about to play in defending unborn babies.
“Tennessee is ready to defend the lives of all unborn children and the life of the mother, thanks to the constitutional amendment we passed under my leadership as Speaker and the Human Life Protection Act,” she said.
Harwell previously lambasted the Democrat response to protests outside the U.S. Supreme Court justices’ homes, which are expected to get significantly more intense now that the Hobbs decision is official.
“These brave men and women have had protests outside their homes for over a month now and Democrats in Washington have turned a blind eye. It’s 100% political and it’s wrong,” Harwell said.
Harwell has been endorsed by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List’s candidate fund political action committee, an endorsement she received in late May.
“Beth Harwell is a faithful champion of the unborn who proves that pro-life is truly pro-woman,” said Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, SBA List’s vice president of government affairs.
The 6-3 Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade, authored by Justice Samuel Alito, was published on Friday.
The primary election in Tennessee for national office is scheduled for August 4. Early voting begins July 15, but the last day to register to vote in the 2022 primary is July 5th.

As a female I APPLAUD the Supreme Court today for doing the right thing.
Is this the same Beth Harwell that blocked immigration bills? That Beth Harwell? We have a long memory, Harwell.

if you dont like the decision you are free to move to one of the many liberal hellhole states
The court has ruled to deprive YOU and of all other women and girls of the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy if your health or the baby’s health warrants it! Besides, the six justices who ruled against Roe don’t really care about the newly born baby’s life, but simply of the baby’s BIRTH! Once born, the Court won’t care what bad happens to that child. Abortion is a private matter between mother and doctor. Shame on you, Beth! You have betrayed your fellow women (and like-minded men) of Tennessee and the U.S. May you go down in defeat!
Someone let gramps into a computer again and forgot to give him his pills
Please point out where in the constitution that it says a person has the right to an abortion
No, what you say is not true. The court denied nothing. All the decision did was affirm that abortion is not and never was a constitutional issue. The decision, consistent with the 19 Amendment, moves authority to the respective state legislative bodies. Even the very liberal Ruth Ginsburg has acknowledged the Roe v Wade Decision went too far, that it encroached on state’s rights and not in line with US Constitution language.
