Independent Journalist Alex Berenson Sues Twitter for First Amendment Violation

Independent journalist Alex Berenson on Monday announced from his SubStack account, “Unreported Truths,” a lawsuit against Twitter for violating his First Amendment rights.

The lawsuit, which follows the social media giant banning the author from the platform, contends that multiple Twitter officials assured Berenson that he would have access to the platform, only to be kicked off later.

According to the suit, Twitter has broken multiple state and national provisions.

“Remember, folks – Don’t take the law into your own hands, you take ‘em to court!” Berenson remarked above a copy of a lawsuit he filed against Twitter.

Conservatives across the country have continuously alleged censorship from Twitter and other platforms. Some political candidates and officials have been temporarily suspended from the app.

Previously, Berenson predicted that the social media’s alleged censorship with continue to worsen, following the news that former CEO Jack Dorsey stepped down from the company.

“Unfortunately, Twitter no longer believes in free speech.” Berenson wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. “Worse, its censorship is selective, enforced against conservative political leaders with views distasteful to the woke elite in Silicon Valley—and against independent journalists like me, who have raised questions about our response to COVID that public health authoritarians cannot tolerate.”

Other individuals have attempted to take on the social media giant. Former President Donald Trump and the America First Policy Institute filed a separate lawsuit earlier this year.

“We’re asking the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to order an immediate halt to social media companies’ illegal, shameful censorship of the American people – and that’s exactly what they are doing. We’re demanding for an end to the shadow-banning; a stop to the silencing; and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing, and canceling that you know so well. Our case will prove that this censorship is unlawful, its unconstitutional, and it’s completely un-American,” Trump said at the time.

The case is Berenson v. Twitter, No. 3:21-cv-09818 in the Federal District Court of Northern California.
