U.S. Senate candidate Manny Sethi released a statewide ad Thursday criticizing his opponent in the Republican primary, Bill Hagerty, for past connections to Mitt Romney and Al Gore.
This, according to a press release that Sethi’s campaign emailed Thursday.
Sethi’s campaign titled the ad “Romney, Gore, and Common Core.”
In the press release, Sethi Campaign Chair Chris Devaney said the ad highlights important differences between the two candidates.
“Bill Hagerty is attacking Dr. Manny Sethi for giving $50 to a family friend,” Devaney said.
“Meanwhile Hagerty gave $100,000 to Mitt Romney, donated to Al Gore, and Hagerty’s company made millions off Common Core. Hagerty is desperate and scared. He should be—Manny Sethi is winning.”
Sethi, in the ad, asks “why is the establishment attacking a nice guy like me?”
Hagerty campaign spokeswoman Abigail Sigler addressed the ad in an email Thursday. The Tennessee Star specifically asked Sigler about Sethi’s claim that Hagerty made millions of dollars off Common Core and whether it was true.
“Of course, Bill worked to defeat Barack Obama in 2012, unlike Massachusetts Manny Sethi who applied to be in the Obama Biden White House. Manny Sethi’s Never Trumpers have been attacking Bill since the day President Trump endorsed and announced his run for Senate,” Sigler said.
“President Trump looked at all the candidates in this race, and he endorsed Bill because he trusts Bill to stand with him to protect conservative values, get our economy going again, hold China accountable, and stand up for life.”
In 2009 members of the Obama White House announced on their website that Sethi was one of many national finalists for the 2009-2010 class of White House fellows.
Sethi Campaign Manager Forrest Barnwell-Hagemeyer emailed The Star Thursday and offered the following statement:
“Hagerty was appointed to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships by Bill Clinton and re-appointed by Obama. Manny applied for a non-partisan academic fellowship from the Commission, while Hagerty was still on the Commission. Now, Hagerty is attacking Manny for applying to be a part of a group of which Hagerty was a member,” Barnwell-Hagemeyer said adding “it’s all a smokescreen.”
As The Star reported this month, Hagerty donated $1,000 each to the presidential campaigns of both Al Gore and George W. Bush in the year 2000, according to Federal Election Commission filings. That year Hagerty, according to his LinkedIn page, worked at the private equity investment firm Hagerty Peterson & Company LLC in Nashville, a position he held until July 2017. Hagerty said on his LinkedIn page that he co-founded the company.

It’s time to STOP voting for the lesser of two evils. Voting for either one is continuing to feed the swamp.
I voted for Manny for three reasons , 1. He isn’t Bill Hagerty who is a complete fraud and career government type , the very people who’ve brought America to it’s knees, 2. Manny is at least a fresh face and comes from a family of very successful legal immigrants who seem per-disposed to support legal immigration and lastly he’s the only candidate with a chance of defeating Hagerty in this primary.
Folks, if America and indeed our state and local government is to have a chance at survival we must rid ourselves of the notion that the governing class alone are entitled to the reins of power.
Career politicians always end up serving and growing government not the people.
They’re two of a kind. To hell with both of them!
I am voting for Dr. Manny. Unfortunately in 1913 we not only got the Federal Reserve, but we also got senatorial elections that generally are funded through banking. In other words, the banks are able to channel money into campaigns of Senators. If you haven’t noticed, the federal government has become nothing more than a front for a central bank. We were conquered again by the British, through the banking system, and our troops are all over the world guarding the “British Empire.” With Rothschild’s involvement in the creation of the State of Israel, I am always wondering if candidate support “Israel” or simply looking for sugar daddy Rothschild support? My best recollection of Jesus was running the ‘money changers’ out of the Temple?
DSB – You’re so right. The 16th amendment placed the financial shackles on us and the 17th Amendment guaranteed that they would stay there forever!
I’m voting for Manny, BUT and already looking and thinking of who we can get to replace him! We MUST stop being enamored with personalities and start looking at results.
Our Republic’s days are numbered, unless We the People get some serious backbone, and vote these swamp dwellers out! Marsha-mellow is nice enough person but she’s squishy and is part of the “establishment” and needs to go! And when Sethi goes off the rails even a little bit, vote him out!
Re: the Federal Reserve, you’re correct. In June of 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order to the Treasury Dept authorizing the issuing of $5 Billion in “United States Notes” in $2 and $5 denominations backed by silver. Other larger ones were to follow. Had that continued, the Federal Reserve would have been put out of business in the United States with a return to Constitutional interest free money. He also ran on an “America First” foreign policy and follow his unofficial advisor, Gen Douglass MacArthur, who advised him against getting involved in Vietnam (another Korea). The banking cartel likes debt and war. It is my opinion that he was assassinated by “the deep state” apparatus because of those things. Additionally he said this:

That was in direct opposition to a controlled and censored media as we had then and now, especially with the corporate media and Big Tech fascist censorship.
So now the truth comes out–Hagerty has tried to misrepresent and deceive! And this is not the first time that Hagerty has done this, either. Hagerty gave an interview (that cannot be disputed) to the Jackson Sun newspaper a few weeks ago falsely accusing Sethi concerning the abortion issue. Sounds to me like Hagerty is behind and that he is becoming desperate and willing to do anything to try to ‘turn this thing around.’ Tennessee has had more than its share of frauds in its high Federal public office holders. A hint to the wise is sufficient. No more RINOs and ‘sellouts’ in the U. S. Senate from Tennessee!
For conservatives the election of Chairman Manny would represent a setback for our movement because it would be a second perfect illustration in two years of how you can do almost nothing for conservative candidates and/or conservative causes yet succeed with campaign advertising to get conservatives to vote for you for very high office anyway. Before casting a vote for Dr. “CONVSERVATIVE-OUTSIDER,” who happens to be neither, every conservative should ask themselves how can we ever get politically ambitious people of wealth to contribute to our chronically underfunded candidates and causes if we show by our votes that we don’t really care all that much whether they do or not.
Stuart, you keep referring to “Chairman Manny”, yet Bill Hagerty actually served “as a national finance CHAIRMAN in the Mitt Romney 2008 presidential campaign.” Now there’s a real conservative credential, association, Mitt Romney….LOL!
Meanwhile, Dr Manny Sethi is being endorsed by several former Constitutional conservative Tennessee elected office holders and KY Sen. Rand Paul, one of the most Constitutional conservatives now serving in the U.S. Senate who will be in attendance with him this Saturday in Lascassas, Tennessee and has a current TV ad for him.
Indeed Ron, as I have tried to point out a number of times for conservatives this is an election of the undesirables. It is simply a matter of which candidate is more undesirable than the other. I think Chairman Manny is more undesirable for conservatives simply because he is running for one of the highest offices in our government as a conservative when he has absolutely no record of being one.
As for dueling chairmanships, I think Sethi’s chairmanship of the Statesmen’s Dinner in 2016 when he is running as an “OUTSIDER” along with his close frendship with former state GOP Chairmen Bob Davis and Chip Saltsman added on top of his lack of conservative credentials show what a fraudulent enterprise this entire Dr. “CONSERVATIVE-OUTSIDER” campaign really is. In contrast, Hagerty’s support of Romney simply shows Hagerty to be what I always knew he was, a centrist/tepid conservative bloke who I never would consider voting for if there was a viable conservative alternative. Hagerty’s record naturally engenders conservative opposition. I understand that opposition, however, given the harm a Chairman Manny victory will do to the conservative movement long-term, in this particular case, that opposition is misplaced.
Well, Stuart, maybe you need to look at Byron Bush or George Flinn. Or did Flinn drop out? Or is it the old “lesser of two evils”? LOL!

My sentiments exactly… It looks like you have just hit the proverbial nail on the head! This is one of those times when we will have to choose between the lesser of the evils.. and, in this case, I choose to trust Trump..
And let’s not forget that many of us supported Mitt Romney because we had no other reasonable choice.. That election was close but was his to lose… and he managed to do so the moment he caved to Candy Crowley in that debate.. and he has gone downhill ever since!
True, Eleanor, had Romney gone after Obama anywhere near how he has Trump, he would’ve likely won that election. I still remember veteran Democratic strategist, Bob Beckel, lamenting about 2-3 weeks before the election, that “it’s over” for Obama. And Trump endorsed him and supported him financially during his campaign.
Contrary to what you and Sturat say, I’m enthusiastically supporting Dr Manny Sethi. I’ve had the opportunity to talk with him on several ocasions and I’m assured he is an authentic Constitutional conservative, pro Liberty candidate.
