Nashville Council Member Steve Glover Wants Watch Party for Donald Trump’s GOP Convention Speech

Despite COVID-19, Nashville Metro At-Large Council Member Steve Glover wants to gather with other people in public to watch U.S. President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention later this month.

But, as Glover said this week on Facebook, some people have a problem with that.

“I will be headed out tomorrow to look at a location for one of the potential gatherings for August 27th. I want to be with others that support President Trump and want to celebrate his acceptance speech no matter where he may be,” Glover said on his Facebook page.

“It is our right to be able to embrace the person we want to get us back on track from the last several months of others who have tried to kill our jobs and economy. Mark your calendar for August 27th at 6am to begin the countdown to November 3rd.”

Glover, in an earlier Facebook video, said any such location will follow social distancing guidelines and have limited seating capacity — but some people didn’t believe that at first.

“People automatically assumed that I don’t believe in COVID or I don’t believe in social distancing or masks or blah, blah, blah. I don’t believe I said that. I said ‘follow the rules.’ If we do, are you guys interested in that? Instead of other people talking for me I am quite capable of saying exactly what I mean, when I mean it, and when I want to say it,” Glover said.

“And that is what I meant. I don’t have locations. I’m going to check it because a lot of people responded positively to it.”

As The Tennessee Star reported this month, Glover, in a fiery Facebook Live video, criticized the city’s 34 percent tax increase and said Nashville is “at war” to save its economy as people are afraid of COVID-19.

Glover said it’s time to reopen Nashville and that “laying off people is not taking care of our city.”

“Do you know how many people had to get laid off and let go this week because of all of the shenanigans that are being played downtown?” Glover asked.

“Now they can say whatever they want to say, give whatever number they want to give, pretend like we can’t actually be responsible adults out there, but I can assure you we are. What I do know is that if we don’t let business be in business then people lose their jobs.”

  1. MAGA

Have it at Legislative Plaza. Where Mayor Cooper held his BLM/AntiFa rally.

  2. Kevin

Preferably, the location will be 1 foot over the Davidson County line, in any direction. Just let us know when and where, we’ll be there!
