Tennessee Officials Give Out Taxpayer Money to 11 New Companies

 

Tennessee officials will bestow $250,000 in taxpayer money upon Love’s Travel Stops, which will set up in Gibson County as a tire retread and distribution facility.

This, according to pending contracts on the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s website.

As The Tennessee Star reported, Love’s wouldn’t agree to build unless they got state and local incentives.

The TNECD will hand out other grant money to other businesses that either want to come to Tennessee or are already here and want taxpayer money to expand, according to the department’s website.

• Enexor Energy, LLC. Company officials will invest $500,000 in Williamson County to create 41 new jobs. The TNECD will give the company a $41,000 grant.

• Midwest Molding. Company officials will invest $3 million in Hamilton County. The TNECD will give the company a $30,000 grant.

• Harrow Health, Inc. The company will invest $524,000 in Davidson County. The TNECD will give the company a $135,000 grant.

• Memphis Record Pressing. The company will invest $500,000 in Shelby County. The TNECD will give the company a $14,000 grant.

• Monogram Refrigeration. The company will invest more than $4 million in McNairy County. The TNECD will give the company a $222,500 grant.

• Onyxx Medical. The company will invest $7 million in Shelby County. The TNECD will give the company a $36,000 grant.

• Pilot.com, Inc. The company will invest $6.2 million in Davidson County. The TNECD will give the company $773,500 in grants.

• RTG Furniture Corp. of Georgia. The company will invest $69 million in Wilson County. The TNECD will give the company $200,000 in grants.

• Sonoco Products. The company will invest more than $13 million in Madison County. The TNECD will give the company $94,000 in grants.

As The Star reported, Tennessee officials want to give Mitsubishi Motors North America more than $3.3 million in corporate welfare.

State officials reportedly do this to lure the company’s headquarters from California to Franklin, Tenn.

The grant will come from the state’s FastTrack economic development fund.

According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development’s website, Mitsubishi Motors will invest $18.25 million to move its U.S. headquarters to Williamson County. TDEC officials say the move will bring approximately 200 jobs to Franklin. Relocation is scheduled begin in August and get completed by end of 2019.
