TN-5 Candidate Andy Ogles Says SCOTUS Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade is ‘Answer to Prayer’

Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, a candidate in the August 4 Republican primary for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District seat, said in a statement that the “SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and return decision-making authority to the people is an answer to prayer.”

Ogles talked about the historic nature of the decision and the importance defending the unborn.

“Today is a historic day for the United States. For nearly 50 years, Americans have tirelessly fought for the lives of the unborn and prayed for their protection without ceasing. Today those prayers have been answered. America is a nation that recognizes and honors the intrinsic value of human life,” Ogles said.

“Today SCOTUS finally recognized that fundamental precept and overturned Roe v. Wade,” he said.

Ogles emphasized his belief that life begins at conception.

“Life begins at conception, and all of us are duty-bound to protect it at every stage until death. We have a societal mandate to defend the most vulnerable among us, and this ruling marks the moment in American history that will result in millions of lives being saved,” he said.

“I am grateful for the five Supreme Court Justices that voted to give the people a voice in protecting life, I am grateful for President Trump’s foresight to elect principled Justices to the court for such a day as this, and I am most grateful to God for His provision in guiding our country through these tumultuous times,” Ogles said.

Ogles further stated his strong agreement with the SCOTUS decision.

“The United State Supreme Court got it right today. This is fantastic news for everyone who values life, but this is also great news for all who knew Roe v. Wade was a terrible legal decision. For decades we’ve had to deal with the repercussions of The Supreme Court exceeding its powers and writing law from the bench.”

The Maury County mayor noted in his press statement that even liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recognized the Court’s faulty legal reasoning when she remarked that Roe was “heavy-handed judicial intervention that was difficult to justify and appears to have provoked, not resolved, conflict.”

Ogles continued his criticism of the Roe decision, “the Court invented rights, which the people and the states never approved. The foundational element of our constitutional republic is that the power is derived from the people. Today, that power returns to the people.”
