President Donald Trump on Wednesday canceled the signing of the bipartisan housing bill, saying he won’t sign the measure until the Senate passes the election integrity and voter security bill known as the SAVE Act.

“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby canceled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Trump has asked Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., to abolish the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act, whose formal title is the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. But Thune has so far refused to do so, The Hill reported.

The housing bill passed with veto-proof majorities, though if Trump doesn’t sign the legislation within 10 days and Congress adjourns, the bill could get hit with a pocket veto. Congress is scheduled to begin a two-week recess on Friday, but it’s not a formal adjournment.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said on social media she would “be voting no and oppose other bills AND rules until we fight for SAVE America Act.”

“That means if House GOP leadership chooses today to move the SENATE HOUSING BILL under suspension (getting rid of our house rules) I will vote to shut the floor down. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE,” she added.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren criticized Trump for not signing the housing bill.

“I just, I don’t have any idea. This just doesn’t make any sense, other than whatever it is he wants to do, it’s a complete indifference to the cost squeeze on American families and to genuine efforts to do something about it,” Warren said, according to The Hill.
