SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk said on Monday he’ll give every child a share in the company in 2027.
“This will be the first of many,” Musk said in the post on X.
Musk currently owns approximately 4.8 billion shares in SpaceX, CNBC reported, citing an August SEC filing.
There are 72 million children under 18 in the U.S., according to U.S. Census data. Handing a share to every one of them would amount to about $10.5 billion worth of shares, based on the stock price at closing on Friday.
Musk had a net worth estimated at $929.2 billion on Monday, according to Forbes.
Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, called Musk’s decision “tremendous news for America’s children.”
“An entire generation will grow up as SpaceX owners,” he noted.
Like Musk, Dell and his wife pledged to give money to American children. The Dell family gave $6.2 billion to “Trump accounts” in America. That brings the total to 25 million children receiving a $250 donation.
Dell announced earlier in October that 25 million American children received their donation.
“$6.25 billion. Invested in kids. Compounding for decades. If you have a child under 18, claim their account and see how much is in there now. $250 is only the beginning,” he said on social media.
