EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and official guest host of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, is optimistic that billionaire Elon Musk and his team within the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will be successful in identifying and cutting massive amounts of wasteful federal government spending.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order officially creating DOGE in one of his first moves hours after taking the oath of office on January 20.
The creation of DOGE, the executive order states, is intended to “implement the President’s DOGE Agenda, by modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.”
Musk has since recruited six young engineers to carry out DOGE’s mission: 19-year-old Edward Coristine, 21-year-old Akash Bobba, 22-year-old Ethan Shaotran, 23-year-old Luke Farritor, 24-year-old Gautier Cole Killian, and 25-year-old Gavin Kliger, according to the Daily Mail.
Musk and his crew are operating as special government employees.
On Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, Haust said Musk and his team of young engineers should be given a “chance” to root out and eliminate wasteful spending, noting how previous efforts to tackle the nation’s debt have been long unsuccessful.
“We’ve been doing the same thing for decades and decades. Over a hundred years that we’ve tried it their way. We’ve tried all the social programs, and the international social programs, and giving our money to countries like Ukraine and starting wars and regime changes and all the things. Guess what? It stinks. Nobody likes it. We’re more divided. Our country’s in massive debt,” Haust explained.
“Let’s give these guys a chance,” Haust added.
With regard to the criticism of Musk and his team having access to sensitive information including the Treasury payments system, Haust said it is “mind blowing” that people are “more concerned” with DOGE’s work to root out fraud rather than the fraud being identified by the new department.
“Does anybody think Elon Musk gives a lick about our social security numbers? No, he’s investigating departments, agencies that are spending our money,” Haust said.
“Why are they more concerned about the people doing the work of finding this fraud than they are about the actual fraud they’re finding? That’s mind blowing,” Haust added.
Since its creation, DOGE has saved over $57 billion, according to the U.S. debt clock.
