House Judiciary Republicans, led by Chair Jim Jordan of Ohio, released an interim staff report on Monday that highlighted the “dangers” of New York City’s sanctuary policies and the significant threat it poses to public safety.

The report claimed that the New York City Police Department received nearly 10,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers in the past year and honored zero. It also received 20,255 detainers from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2026, and also reportedly honored none of them.

The New York City Department of Corrections received nearly 3,000 detainers between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2026, and refused to honor any of them.

“This interim report provides evidence of the ways in which just one city has implemented policies that allow dangerous foreign nationals to reoffend and avoid deportation,” the committee wrote in the report. “But New York and its leaders are not outliers. They are indicative of a modern, radical, socialist Democrat Party that seeks to erase national borders and place illegal alien criminals ahead of law-abiding American citizens.”

“The policies supported by these Democrats, including sanctuary policies, will have negative and lasting consequences for Americans. The Committee and Subcommittee will continue to conduct oversight of these sanctuary policies to inform potential legislative reforms to better protect American communities,” the report added.

The report also claimed that New York City prosecutors treated illegal migrants differently than American citizens in similar situations, allegedly prioritizing the illegal migrants so they could remain in the United States and not be deported.

The report concluded Democrats nationwide “reinforced sanctuary policies to ensure that the millions of illegal aliens who entered the U.S. are never removed from the country. New York City is just one example of Democrats’ efforts to erase national borders and undermine immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, President Trump and House and Senate Republicans continue to work on commonsense solutions to secure the border, enforce federal immigration law, and protect American communities.”
