A new CBS News/YouGov poll shows that most Americans approve of Donald Trump’s first weeks in office.
The poll released Sunday found that 53 percent of Americans approved of Trump’s term so far.
Sixty percent of males and 47 percent of females approved of Trump’s first weeks.
The top three words people surveyed described Trump as “tough,” “energetic,” and “focused.”
Furthermore, 70 percent of respondents said that Trump is doing what he promised during his presidential campaign.
Almost 60 percent of people in this poll approved of Trump’s actions to address illegal immigration.
Last week, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that Mexico had received almost 11,000 illegal immigrants since Trump became president, Reuter reported.
One of the actions Trump has taken is to send American troops to the southern border. Almost 4,000 military members are on the southern border.
The poll shows that 64 percent of respondents approved of this action.
Regarding putting tariffs on other countries, 49 percent of respondents said Trump’s actions were “too much.” Forty-three percent said it was the “right amount,” and 8 percent said it was “not enough.”
On February 1, Trump imposed a 10 percent tariff on all Chinese imports.
Fifty-six percent of people approved of putting tariffs on the Communist country.
Despite being in favor of tariffs on the Chinese, poll respondents opposed tariffs on Europe (40 percent), Canada (38 percent), and Mexico (56 percent).
When asked about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), respondents had mixed opinions on it.
Twenty-three percent of respondents said they believe DOGE should have “a lot” of influence over U.S. government agencies’ spending and operations. Meanwhile, 28 percent said it should have “some” influence, 18 percent responded with “not much,” and 31 percent said “none” at all.
During its short existence, DOGE has found a lot of wasteful government spending in USAID, which is a State Department program that distributes foreign aid.
According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, “American taxpayers have paid $1.5 million to advance DEI in Serbia workplaces,” “$70,000 for the production of a DEI musical in Ireland,” “$47,000 for a trans opera in Colombia, and “$32,000 for a trans comic book in Peru.”
DOGE’s work has led to the dismantling of the governmental agency.
The results of this poll were conducted between February 5 to February 7. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.5 points.
