Live from Music Row Tuesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed Tennessee Voter Guide creator Craig Huey in thestudio to inform voters of Williamson County’s commissioner race and the consequential race for the Senate in Davidson County.
Leahy: In the studio, Craig Huey, who has a voter guide for the election here coming up a week from today in Tennessee. Williamson County. You’ve got a very interesting county commissioner race you want to talk about, is that right?
Huey: That is correct. Michael, you know what happened. We saw that there was such a misunderstanding of how to vote your values.
And so many people in the Republican establishment and the Democrats and Independents, there was confusion and we tried to get clarity. So throughout the state of Tennessee, we have the voter guide
Leahy: Where is this on the web?
Huey: It’s at tennvoterguide.com.
Leahy: Tennvoterguide.com, go there today, folks.
Huey: It will tell you everything. Even judges. Even judges.
Leahy: Even judges. And nobody knows who the judges are.
Huey: They don’t want you to know.
Leahy: But they care about Williamson County. If you live in Williamson County, you care about that. And in the 7th district. What’s the story there?
Huey: So it’s a sleeper. Very few people know it. So what happened in the primary is that a candidate by the name of Christopher Richards lost by 11 votes and the winner actually died before he could take office.
So they’re having another election for County Commission District 7. And we gave Christopher Richards, who is running as a Republican, five stars. Less than 15 percent of the candidates get five stars.
Leahy: You very rarely give five stars.
Huey: That’s correct. And here’s the thing: He is a fighter against corruption and overspending and deficit spending. It’s a shame that in conservative Williamson County, you have a county that basically has gone into deficit spending just like the Democrats would.
Leahy: Yes, that whole deficit spending. They’re building these big Taj Mahal-type schools.
Huey: It’s worse than that. That’s part of the problem.
Leahy: It’s only part of it.
Huey: During the primary, Michael, during the primary, the debt was a billion dollars. Now it’s $2.2 billion. And in the primary, the interest rates on that debt was one percent.
Today it’s about four percent. And they bought the Renaissance Festival grounds for $3 million there in Triune, and they went ahead and bought $15 million of animal shelter. It’s a lot of waste.
Leahy: Craig, don’t you think that Williamson County needs to own a castle?
Huey: Oh, my gosh. It’s terrible. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Now, Christopher is running against a Democrat, and here’s the thing: This election, most voters are just forgetting it because it’s so uninteresting. They think it’s boring.
Leahy: A local election.
Huey:Â So this race is going to have a lot of Democrats coming out. A lot of them think they can do pretty well on that. And he’s also running against the Independent. But we gave Christopher Richards a five-star.
Leahy: That’s five out of five.
Huey: Yes. And if you’re looking to volunteer, helping, praying for a candidate, this is a candidate to work for.
Leahy: So I’m looking at the map here of Williamson County’s county commission’s district. There are 12, and there are two commissioners per district. The 7th district is basically the western half of Brentwood, in essence, right?
Huey: That’s right. If you’re in that area that’s on your ballot, you’ve got to get out and vote. Michael, this election goes across the state, obviously. And so in Davidson County, let’s talk about some of these.
Leahy: Shall I call it the People’s Republic of Davidson?
Huey: Here’s the sad part. I moved my business from California to Nashville and to Germantown and was hit with a 34 percent extra tax. What is that? This is the type of thing we’ve got to stop.
Leahy: Well, it’s a very nice facility.
Huey: Yes, it is.
Leahy: It’s a wonderful facility in a cool part of town. But you’ve been hit with these property taxes.
Huey: This is not what we expected from the state of Tennessee. So you do have a Democratic dominance. But let me tell you about some of these candidates, and I think every listener needs to be aware of it.
Leahy: Well, a lot of listeners in Davidson County. Yeah.
Huey: So let’s just take State Senate District 19. Charlane Oliver is a Democrat. She is running against Pime Hernandez, which gets a four-star. He’s a Republican.
Well, on the surface, it’s just a Republican-Democrat type of race where the Democrat in Davidson County is probably going to win. But let me tell you a little bit.
Charlane Oliver, for the last 20 years has been mobilizing in Nashville, just like the Democrats have mobilized in Memphis and Knoxville.
And what they’re doing is they’re organizing and mobilizing an army of voters to wipe out conservatives, to wipe out Republicans, and transform our culture. This Charlane Oliver, she’s the co-founder of the Equity Alliance.
Leahy: Oh, we need an equity alliance here. By the way, I’m looking at our website. She calls herself a servant leader and a community organizer.
Huey: She’s a community organizer like Obama. And as a community organizer, she has done such a great job. One of the Left’s big things is to have a voter guide. That’s why we brought this to Tennessee, because you know how to vote your values from the top to the bottom.
They have a voter guide to help elect people like her. Their voter guides are in Arabic, it’s in Spanish, it’s in English. And they have infiltrated the liberal churches.
They have infiltrated the people coming in as refugees and as illegal immigrants. They are going out and organizing an army of people who are politically active.
Leahy: I’m looking at her website. She’s endorsed by the Tennessee AFL CIO. The Tennessee Immigration and Refugee Resettlement Council, SEIU, Planned Parenthood, and of course, the famous Equity Alliance Fund.
Huey: That’s right. So here’s the thing. Businesses in Nashville paid the Equity Alliance that money. She was able to go to businesses and get them to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to their organization.
They are one of the wealthiest nonprofit political organizations built upon getting money from business and nonprofit groups in Nashville. It’s really sad. But she’s going to be a fireball, an organizer in the state capitol.
