Governor Ducey to Send Law Enforcement Officials to the Yuma Sector of the Southern Border

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced on Tuesday that he will send law enforcement personnel and equipment to the U.S. southern border.

The decision comes in response to thousands of migrants attempting to enter the country in Yuma.

“It’s clear the Biden administration has created a December Disaster at our border,” said Governor Ducey. “As a result of piecemeal policy and a lack of federal involvement, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been inundated. We simply cannot stand by and watch this catastrophe unfold. We are taking action at the state level to protect Arizonans and our communities. My thanks to the men and women of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the members of the Arizona National Guard, the team at the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, members of the Border Patrol and the entire law enforcement community for your commitment to protecting Arizonans.”

According to Ducey’s office, the National Guard will send 24 personnel, six vehicles, four ATVs, and one light utility helicopter to aid Border Patrol officials.

Last fiscal year, more than 1.7 million individuals were apprehended by border officials.

Based on reports from individuals in Yuma, many of the migrants entering the country are from multiple, different Latin American countries.

“This sector has seen a dramatic increase in apprehensions in recent days as large groups illegally cross into the U.S. to turn themselves in to Border Patrol. People I’ve talked to say they’re from Venezuela, Brazil, and Colombia,” tweeted journalist Julio Rosas.

As similar instances have occurred at multiple locations along the border, other governors have pledged to assist Arizona and Texas.

The Tennessee Star reported Governor Bill Lee will relocate 50 additional members of the Tennessee National Guard troops to the Texas border.
