Memphis Shelby County Schools (MSCS) on Tuesday will discuss whether to accept a $6 million donation from the Musk Foundation, the philanthropic effort by billionaire Elon Musk, that would fund repairs at three Memphis elementary schools while supporting the district’s students.
The materials prepared ahead of the meeting appear to reveal the bulk of the $6 million will be spent on upgrades to Hawkins Mill Elementary, Westside Elementary, and Whitney Elementary, which were previously proposed as schools to receive students from deteriorating buildings.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday served subpoenas to at least five top Minnesota Democrats — including Gov. Tim Walz — as part of the Justice Department’s investigation into the obstruction of ICE and of the Trump administration’s illegal immigration crackdown in the state, U.S. officials confirmed to Just the News.
Beyond the subpoena issued to Walz for allegedly obstructing law enforcement activities, the DOJ also subpoenaed Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her and Hennepin County attorney Mary Moriarty over their alleged anti-ICE actions and obstruction activities, the U.S. officials said.

An annual report released earlier this month by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America, the nation’s largest construction union, found that nearly one-third of construction companies in Tennessee lost workers over immigration enforcement in the last six months, including 9 percent who reported that immigration authorities conducted enforcement operations at their construction sites.
The AGC 2026 Construction Outlook report for Tennessee, released on January 8, found that 9 percent of responding firms in the Volunteer State reported that a federal immigration official visited a job site or construction office in the last six months.

Last week, 31-year old Mena Awad was arrested in Louisville, Kentucky, at a hotel after charges were filed against him earlier in the week for aggravated rape, aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary stemming from the December 31 incident at a Millwood Drive apartment.

China’s birth rate dropped to its lowest level since 1949, the first year of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule over the mainland under Chairman Mao Zedong.

The 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum convening in Davos on January 19-23 will be the first without its founder, Klaus Schwab. WEF’s new organizers should use the occasion to distance themselves from Schwab’s worst ideas: stakeholder capitalism, ESG investing and the net-zero energy paradigm.
Stakeholder capitalism is a concept invented by Schwab. Schwab’s argued for years that capitalism governed by shareholders would be vastly improved by systematically elevating the inputs of other stakeholders, like employees, supply chains, community values and the environment. ESG investing is the analytic framework upon which stakeholder capitalism largely depends. ESG rating agents use non-financial metrics to identify the “best” and “worst” companies to overweight, underweight or exclude in investment portfolios. Stakeholder capitalists broadly embraced the net-zero energy paradigm, aka “Paris +1.5°C by 2050 at all costs”. Net-zero commitments led many European countries to spend trillions on wind and solar investments at the expense of more reliable, more resilient and considerably cheaper energy alternatives, including fossil fuels. WEF’s acolytes have cheered them on as they did.
