EJ Haust, official guest host of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, said Republicans should be prepared for an expected legal battle if House Republicans attempt to block Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-backed candidates from being seated in Congress over questions about whether they can truthfully take the congressional oath of office.

Haust made the remarks during Friday’s show while discussing comments made earlier this week by Newsmax host Tom Basile, who argued Republicans should examine whether lawmakers advocating policies that seek to fundamentally alter the U.S. constitutional system can legally take the oath required of congressional members.

President Donald Trump is moving forward with an effort to remove Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve over allegations of mortgage fraud. 

The White House notified Cook via a letter Wednesday, which was obtained Friday by Just the News, that the president was “considering” removing her from her role on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The letter demanded she respond within three weeks to allegations of making false statements on mortgage agreements.

The Senate Permanent Committee on Investigations exposed COVID-19 vaccine injuries long “masked” in government surveillance databases, allegedly at the behest of the Biden administration. Thanks to the Trump administration’s drug regulators, the panel led by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., has a new opportunity to investigate vaccine safety.

Moderna announced late Wednesday that the Food and Drug Administration approved its mRNA flu vaccine, the first ever, despite the drugmaker not testing it against a placebo and its own research finding little benefit over a standard licensed flu shot and a worse safety profile. One pharmacologist called the results “not breathtaking.”

After securing the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 9th Congressional District on Thursday, State Representative Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) named SpaceXAI owner Elon Musk in his Thursday victory speech. In a post to social media, Pearson said the victory came despite “attacks” from Musk and his company. 

“Exactly 61 years from the signing of the Voting Rights Act, we won our primary despite a redistricting blow that cracked Memphis’s representation in Congress,” wrote Pearson in a post to X, including a portion of his victory speech.

Trump Announces Deals and Investments to Bolster Mining

The Hill   President Trump on Friday announced a slate of deals and investments that aim to bolster mining, something the administration has said will boost the economy and secure supply chains. Trump said during a mining roundtable that the Defense Department would sign a $1.4 billion loan agreement with Sila Nanotechnologies to build a battery facility in Washington state. The department is also investing $400 million to advance production of scandium, which Trump described as an aerospace and defense material, in Australia and another $150 million in a rare earth magnet facility in Minnesota. He also said the U.S. Export-Import Bank is “working to provide” more than $1 billion to finance Ivanhoe Electric’s copper mine in Arizona and would also seek to support an Alabama graphite project and a California Boron facility. Jobs Report Shows Nearly One Million Fewer Foreign-Born Men in U.S. Labor Force

Breitbart   The American workforce has fewer foreign born workers, especially foreign men, than it did a year ago, reflecting the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce U.S. immigration laws and crack down on illegal entry. The foreign-born population overall fell by 401,000 to 48.1 million over the past year. The number of foreigners in the labor force declined by 550,000 to 31.5 million. Employment fell by 278,000 to around 30.5 million. The declines came entirely from a drop in foreign-born men. The population fell by 819,000 to 22.8 million. The number of foreign-born men in the labor force fell by 962,000 to 17.3 million, and their participation rate fell to 76.1 percent from 77.5 percent. Russia Sanctions Bill Honoring Lindsey Graham Breezes Through Senate, Heads to House

CNBC   The Senate on Friday overwhelmingly approved a Russia sanctions bill that was long championed by the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., before his death last month. The legislation, named the The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, aims to hurt Russia’s war effort in Ukraine by penalizing purchasers of Russian oil and Russian leaders. It passed with bipartisan support 86-11 and will now proceed to the House, which is on recess until September. The bill would impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that are within the top five purchasers of Russian crude oil or gas, which includes China and India. President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher in the general election for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District, and described Hatcher as “a Great ‘Trump’ candidate.”

Trump previously endorsed U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) last year, but in his endorsement of Hatcher, the president said that he “remained loyal” to Ogles despite the incumbent having “virtually no chance of winning” against Hatcher.

Thirteen conservative organizations urged the Senate to pass a bipartisan bill aimed at adding new protections to college sports, the Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively learned Thursday.

The Protect College Sports Act (PCSA) would set new rules and ways to stabilize college sports and protect athletes. Groups such as the America First Policy Institute, the Bull Moose Project, American Values and the Family Business Coalition argued the bill must pass because it “protects” student athletes and institutions with conservative values.
