Canada Imposing Tariffs of Up to 50 Percent on $20 Billion in U.S. Imports

CBS News   Canada on Tuesday announced that it is imposing tariffs of up to 50% on about $20 billion of U.S. imports, aiming to match the Trump administration’s recently announced import duties on Canadian imports. “Today, I’m announcing Canada will match the U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar, up to 50% on $27.6 billion of imports from the United States of America,” Canadian Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne said in a press conference to announce the measure. “For each product, our tariff would match the U.S. tariff on the same type of good.” The amount of goods impacted by the new tariffs, announced in Canadian dollars, translates to about $20 billion in U.S. dollars. The tariffs will focus on steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics that are targeted by the measures announced by the Trump administration. ACLU Demands Records from Tennessee Schools ‘Foolishly’ Displaying Ten Commandments Under New State Law

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Friday announced it sent public records request letters to Tennessee school districts that “foolishly” display the Ten Commandments under a new law that allows them to be displayed, informing the districts that a team of nonprofits is “launching an investigation.”

According to an ACLU press release, letters were sent to records custodians at Blount County School District, Rutherford County Schools, Washington County Schools, White County Schools, and Wilson County Schools, and specifically seek “emails and other communications, as well as all board documents, regarding the display of the Ten Commandments.”

Haiti: Violent Gangs Massacre More than 40 Inside Church in ‘Night of Terror’

Breitbart   Haitian gangs killed at least 47 people and injured more than 22 in a brutal massacre inside a church on Sunday night. The Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste reported that the deadly church massacre occurred in Kenscoff, a hillside commune overlooking the Haitian capital city of Port-au-Prince. Per the newspaper, the neighborhood and its outskirts were under drone surveillance for several days after gangs had gained ground. Gang members opened fire inside a local church that had been serving as a shelter for displaced people. The U.N. reportedly detailed that at least 47 were killed, and more than 22 were left wounded, noting that the figures could change. According to Le Nouvelliste, Johnson “Izo 2” Andre, the leader of the violent 5 Segonn (“5 Seconds”) gang, has claimed responsibility for the Kenscoff massacre. 5 Segonn is part of the broader Viv Ansanm (“Living Together”) gang coalition led by Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier. Trump Administration Threatens to Demolish Kennedy Center If Renovations Are Blocked

The Hill   The Trump administration has threatened to demolish the Kennedy Center if a judge determines that the renowned performing arts center cannot close for a two-year renovation. In court filings on Monday, Justice Department attorney Brantley T. Mayers repeatedly referred to the Kennedy Center as a “decrepit” structure in dire need of renovations led by the Trump administration. Mayers said without renovations, the site will “deteriorate further into an unsafe, decrepit structure that will be required to be taken down, with a determination to follow on what to build on the site, such as a large outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Potomac River that has been proposed, by some, for many years.” READ THE FULL STORY

Supreme Court Hands Trump a Win in Bid to Prevent Ineligible Voters Voting in Midterm Elections

The Supreme Court on Monday opened the door for President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at securing the upcoming midterm elections from ineligible voters and implementing verification standards for mail-in ballots. 

The high court halted a lower court ruling that was blocking the president’s March 31 executive order establishing a whole-of-government approach to prevent noncitizens from registering to vote or voting in federal elections. A coalition of 23 Democratic states and Washington, D.C., sued the administration in Massachusetts to block the order.

Bud Light Parent Company Anheuser-Busch Sues Tennessee for $1.9 Million Tax Refund Years After Dylan Mulvaney Controversy

Anheuser-Busch InBev Worldwide Inc., the global alcohol giant that owns Budweiser and Bud Light, filed a new lawsuit against Tennessee, seeking a refund of nearly $2 million in taxes paid in 2022 and 2023.

Filed in Davidson County Chancery Court on Friday, the company’s lawsuit seeks more than $1.8 million, plus interest, after Anheuser-Busch sent a refund request to the Tennessee Department of Revenue in August 2025. It names Tennessee Commissioner of Revenue David Gerregano as the defendant.

Texas AG Paxton Unveils Data Center Restrictions He Plans to Pursue If Elected to Senate

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, unveiled a four-point plan to “fiercely advocate” for Gov. Greg Abbot’s state-level data center restrictions. 

Paxton’s plan includes sponsoring or backing various federal legislation, including bills that prohibit the use of Chinese technology to power data centers. He would also pursue legislation to hold data center developers criminally liable if their infrastructure “empowers AI chatbots that undermine children’s safety,” The Hill reported.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump are threatening to file a $5 billion defamation lawsuit against a liberal think tank if it doesn’t retract a report claiming that the White House’s deployment of National Guard troops has failed to lower crime rates in D.C. The group is refusing to comply. 

The Center for American Progress published a report in July that found the troop deployments failed to reduce urban crime in the way Trump had claimed, the New York Times reported.

Conservative media commentator, radio host, and media founder Clay Travis on Monday announced a $20,000 reward for information about the death of Cameron Frierson, the 16-year-old Hunters Lane High School student who was fatally shot at a North Nashville football game that Travis attended.

Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) confirmed the shooting on Saturday, announcing that Frierson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. Police said witnesses reported seeing the fatal shots fired from a white sedan with tinted windows.

Commentary: Congress Messed Up Healthcare Again

A few years ago, Congress tried to address America’s healthcare crisis by passing the No Surprises Act. This was well-intended legislation designed to end the scourge of “surprise” medical billing. Prior to this law, patients who unknowingly received care from an out-of-network physician would often be stuck with crippling bills through no fault of their own. The No Surprises Act solved that problem, but unfortunately, as government intervention often does, it created a brand new one in the process that further exacerbated healthcare costs.
