Eleven locations in Tennessee are set to participate in another nationwide protest against President Donald Trump.
Protests around the country will take place on Thursday, titled the “Good Trouble Lives On” protest.
These protests will be occurring on this date to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the death of former Representative John Lewis.
“Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people,” the protest organizers say.
“It’s time for Good Trouble, not just from us, but from every lawmaker who claims to care about our country. Congressman John Lewis warned us of this moment. He spent the final years of his life fighting to protect the right to vote. This is our moment to carry the torch, continue his legacy, and pass it forward to future generations,” they add.
According to its website, over 1,600 events are scheduled to take place. The main protests are supposed to be in Chicago, St. Louis, Annapolis, and Oakland.
In Tennessee, protests are being hosted in various locations, including Chattanooga, Clarksville, Fayetteville, Henderson, Jackson, Knoxville, Madisonville, Maryville, Memphis, Nashville, and Tullahoma.
The protest organizers demand the Trump administration stop squashing people’s civil rights, targeting minority communities, and eliminating entitlement programs.
Indivisible, a progressive organization formed to resist the Trump administration, is organizing this protest.
The organization claims Trump is a “symptom of a sick democracy, not its cause.”
In addition, Indivisible claims America faces two fundamental problems.
“First, our democracy was rigged from the start in favor of the white and wealthy. Second, in the last few decades, an alliance of white nationalists and the ultra-rich have been actively working to further undermine democracy and cement their hold on power permanently. That’s how we ended up with Trump,” its website says.
Invisible has 162 protesters for the event as of Tuesday. Indivisible and the protest partners have received funding from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, which donates to many left-wing causes.
The progressive organization organized the “No Kings” protest in June and the “Hands Off!” protest in April.
