Washington and Lee University Professor of Law Shannon Fyfe on Friday published an article in the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice, which questioned whether Republican state governments, including the Republican majority in the Tennessee General Assembly, are participating in a “trans genocide” through legislation aimed at curtailing transgender treatments for children.
The academic noted that more than 250 laws targeting transgender treatments have been passed by various state governments, including in Tennessee, where the U.S. Supreme Court recently upheld its law banning such treatments for children at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Within the paper, Fyfe (pictured above) wrote that some legislatures, “have targeted trans* people and other members of the queer community through an onslaught of legislative efforts since early 2020,” and later claimed, “By contributing to the collective campaign against trans* people generally, and trans* youth specifically, they have engaged in dehumanization that normalizes dehumanization by others.”
Fyfe ultimately stopped short of accusing Tennessee and other states of participating in a “trans genocide,” but suggested they are nonetheless part of a national effort to restore historic gender roles and challenge medical expertise.
She wrote for the university newspaper, “Yet, as I argue, it is still worth exploring the relationship between the specific harm and methods of banning gender-affirming care for trans* youth, and concepts like genocide, to highlight and condemn the suffering and to show the risks of other harms in service of the larger campaign.”
As she wrote in her academic paper, “State legislatures will be morally, if not legally, responsible for the harm that will inevitably follow.”
The Trump administration has notably sought to curtail federal support for transgender research, with President Donald Trump signing Executive Order 14187 in January, which was titled, Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation, and prohibited federal departments from funding, sponsoring, promoting, assisting, or otherwise supporting transgender surgeries for children.
Fyfe may have avoided this potential federal scrutiny, however, as her paper states that it was funded privately, through the Frances Lewis Law Center at the university, which was established through a private endowment in 1978.
However, her faculty biography suggests she may instruct students in both law and philosophy, and William and Lee receives federal financial aid.

She needs to renew her mind and heart with Jesus and be removed from her educational influence with others in the meantime. Mutilating people is not healthcare and no serious cohort of medical experts pretend that it is anymore. Get steppin’ and get right with Jesus!!!
The medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria (confusion) in children generally resolves as the child matures. It is wrong to try to convince a confused child or their parent, that the only solution is transforming their sex.
Some counseling, some appropriate direction & appropriately explaining that they are actually the sex they are born with, & that if they feel they cannot live as the sex God gave, them, there’s an option once they become adults. Once they begin receiving hormones & surgeries, they will be patients for life.
The majority of those who try to change their sex even as adults, regret it later on.
If a person wants to dress up like the opposite sex, tgey are called Transvestites. They have lived on the fringes of society for decades. Most can only make a living by performing in night clubs, dressed up like famous stars.
They are entertainers. But they don’t expect anyone to believe they are anything but a performer.
People like this ” professor” are Marxisits who want common sense God fearing Christians to buy into her lies. She thinks American Citizens are Stupid, Ignorant People. She can kiss my ass.
I am old enough to remember when Washington & Lee was a serious, respected university.
The only people dead in Tennessee including kids in any way related to trans people are those killed by them. So much for genocide.
Transgenderism is a psychological affliction that should be treated as such, not a condition that should be worshiped. But then again, what else would you expect from the liberal/progressive/socialist/marxist lemmings?
