Congressman Mark Green Explains the Progressive Alternative Worldview: The Triangle of Tyranny

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. –  host Leahy welcomed U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-TN-07) to the newsmaker line to outline his concept of the Triangle of Tyranny and military vaccine mandates.

Leahy: We are joined now on our newsmaker line by our good friend, Congressman Mark Green. Good morning, Congressman Green.

Green: Hey, sir. How are you?

Leahy: I’m great. You and I were talking at an event last week, and I think this is perhaps the first time in decades that a member of Congress has actually said something profound. (Green laughs)

You said something profound. We were talking about this concept of the Golden Triangle of Freedom and you explained the alternative view of the world that the progressives are promoting. Tell us about that.

Green: Yeah, sure. So a lot of people understand most people understand, certainly, your audience does about the Golden Triangle of Freedom by Os Guinness is to have freedom, freedom being the goal, you have to have a virtuous society.

And to have a virtuous society, you have to have some fixed moral right in order to get virtue. And, of course, to have faith and a fixed moral right, you have to have freedom in order to do that.

Well, I think what we’re seeing and how I came about this was just looking at all the things. I’m doing this series on You Can’t Be That Stupid.

Leahy: (Chuckles) That’s funny about that. It’s a YouTube series. I highly recommend it.

Green: Well, thanks. Obviously, they aren’t that stupid. And so what is their intentionality? Their intentionality is their socialist utopia. If they’re pushing critical race theory, meaning all of our systems are racist, it’s because they want a new system.

They want to undo the economy. They want to mess up the economy so they can get rid of capitalism, discredit capitalism and create their socialist utopia. They’re authoritarianism with them in charge.

In order to get to authoritarianism, you need chaos. If there’s chaos in the stock market or chaos in the economy or chaos overseas with our enemies, then obviously you need an authoritarian to fix that.

That’s the only thing that can fix that. But to get chaos, you need moral relativity. And so instead of a fixed moral right, they want moral relativity.

In order to have chaos so that they can have authoritarianism. And that’s the converse of the Golden Triangle. It’s their quest. We think of freedom. That’s our goal. We want individual responsibility and the freedom that comes with it.

They want their smaller number in control in Washington, directing the affairs of the nation because they think they’re smarter than we are and that they know better.

And in some cases, it’s probably a benevolent arrogance. But for others, it’s just power. The result, of course, is authoritarianism and tyranny.

Leahy: So they want to replace the golden triangle of freedom with the evil triangle of authoritarianism. Is that what you call it?

Green: Yes. I called it the Triangle of Tyranny, with the objective being their authoritarianism.

Leahy: The Triangle of Tyranny. Have you put that out in public because I think it’s very good.

Green: Yes. We’ve got an op-ed written and we’re shopping it right now.

Leahy: Good. Well, as soon as that’s out, there, we’ll want to cover it because it’s really a great concept. Speaking of concepts, this is breaking from our show this morning. We want to talk about this report that the Biden maladministration is going to give $450,000 to illegal immigrants who somehow were hurt by Trump policies they claim.

You may not have seen this, but we played a clip this morning of President Biden saying that that report was in his words, garbage. Did you see that from Biden denying that report?

Green: I saw that yesterday, the press was reporting that yesterday that it was. What they did is they shopped their stupid idea. And when they realized just how violent the opposition to it was, that was the president sort of bringing that back or rolling that back.

I’m pretty confident that all of the press, the sources that were cited, would not report this if somebody in the White House had not said it. And so this garbage comment from the president is just them rolling it back.

Leahy: It’s a trial balloon that they put out there and the trial balloon never gained any altitude and somebody stuck a pin in it.

Green: That’s exactly right.

Leahy: And so that’s where the garbage comment from President Biden came from.

Green: Yes, that’s what I believe.

Leahy: I think there’s a lot of evidence to support that. You also wanted to talk about military vaccine mandates. Where are we with that?

Green: Each service is slightly different. So the Army is sitting at about 90 percent vaccinated. The Navy is at 99 percent. Now, this is the active force and the deadlines are coming up. Imagine 10 percent of the military being kicked out.

Your readiness, your unit competencies as they prep for defending our country. You lose 10 percent of the force right off the bat. It’s unmanageable. And so that’s the situation where it is today.

Now in the Reserves and in the National Guard, it’s much higher.  We were looking yesterday for some updated numbers on the Army Guard, but they were at 38 percent vaccinated, so 60 percent of the force not continuing on.

So it’s a mess, the Biden administration. And they want to do the dishonorable discharge. I wrote the amendment for the National Defense Authorization Act, which required, or I should say, prevented a dishonorable discharge.

Joe Biden came out and asked for it to be removed. I had 100 percent of the Democrats on the Armed Services Committee support my amendment.

Leahy: How did you get that to happen?

Green: It was just doing good legislative work and knowing what my intent was. I met with the chairman of the committee a Democrat. Worked the wording so that it basically accomplished my intent but was palatable to them.

Leahy: You actually found a Democrat who you could reason with?

Green: Yes. On this particular issue, there’s overlap.

Leahy: Stop the presses! (Laughter)

Green: Yeah. I ran the floor yesterday for Foreign Affairs Committee, and we had some bills that came on the floor and it was all bipartisan. And foreign affairs and defense are the areas where we actually do have some bipartisanship.

And I’ve worked with Democrats to get some good legislation. And I got a great deal that we’re putting together that will really make a difference for the country. And Democrats are supporting it.

Leahy: That is an amazing accomplishment. I don’t know how you do it. Congressman Mark Green, thanks so much for joining us, and come back again soon.

Green: Thanks, Michael.
