Epoch Times’ Roger Simon on Conservative Author Lee Smith’s October 12 Speaking Engagement for Nashville Republican Women

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed all-star panelist Roger Simon in-studio to talk about author, journalist, and host of Over the Target, Lee Smith, who will be speaking at a gathering of the Nashville Republican Women on October 12.

Leahy: In studio, all-star panelist, my former boss at PJTV, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, and of course, senior editor at The Epoch Times, Mr. Roger Simon. Roger, you have somebody coming in town here you want to talk about?

Simon: Oh, yeah. Well, somebody is coming in town. I can’t say who’s the greatest at a certain occupation other than Michael Patrick and myself. (Laughter) But seriously, folks.

Leahy: And I absolutely appreciate the comment that, that’s called blowing smoke in some place, right? (Laughs) Right?

Simon: It’s called blowing smoke at yourself.

Leahy: Yeah, there you go.

Simon: Anyway, the wonderful political writer Lee Smith, the author of The Plot Against the President, which was the number one bestseller for a while.

Yes, Every Kid

Leahy: Outstanding book. Great movie.

Simon: Yes.

Leahy: By Amanda Milius.

Simon: The daughter of John Milius, the great screenwriter. And anyway, he is coming to town on October 12 to give a talk with the Nashville Republican Women. Now, this talk is open to everybody.

It’s a lunchtime talk, and if you’re interested in politics and the way things are going, as we used to say, be there or be square.

Leahy: And Lee Smith is a great investigative reporter.

Simon: He’s the real deal. I mean, people like me just bloviate but he does the real thing.

Leahy: Bloviate. Now, Roger, I’ve known you for a long time. You don’t bloviate. You provide keen, insightful analysis.

Simon: Well, I learned to write from Richard Pryor. (Laughter) Anyway, here’s the thing. You can go to the website of the Nashville Republican Women and order yourself a luncheon ticket and go hear Lee.

And I would think for anyone who is really interested in where the political scene is going today – and it’s dangerous and Lee is very aware of it. He’s also my colleague at The Epoch Times, which has become the leading newspaper in this country, I can say without fear.

Leahy: I didn’t know he writes at The Epoch Times?

Simon: Not only he writes for it, he has a TV show called Over the Target, which is very good. And that’s becoming the home for people who are writing seriously about politics on the Right now.
