Connecticut Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate Leora Levy has received the endorsement of Mike Pompeo, who served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and then U.S. Secretary of State under former President Donald Trump.
THANK YOU @mikepompeo for your endorsement! I look forward to reinforcing the relationships you built abroad and will continue to promote American interests including U.S. energy INDEPENDENCE!
America is worth fighting for and I am happy to lead that fight in the U.S. Senate. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/hhQnIOXNMW— Leora Levy (@LeoraLevyCT) October 27, 2022
Speaking about the endorsement, Pompeo posted to Twitter, “Leora Levy knows the dangers of socialism.”
“She’s a patriot, a business leader, and she’s fought for veterans,” the former secretary said. “I’m proud to endorse @LeoraLevyCT because she’ll vote to reduce inflation and crime.”
Pompeo added:
Leora Levy’s story is the American Dream, and she believes in the promise of our great nation. Unfortunately, the American Dream is being destroyed by the failed policies of liberal democrats. I know that Leora will fight against the democrat’s socialist policies that have overtaken our democracy and will stand firm with America’s values.
Levy said, in response, “I look forward to reinforcing the relationships you built abroad and will continue to promote American interests including U.S. energy INDEPENDENCE!”
While two Quinnipiac University Polling Institute surveys have found veteran Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal with a double-digit lead over Levy, a recent CT Examiner poll found the race tightening, with Blumenthal leading Levy, 49-44 percent, with 7 percent undecided, and Levy finding favor with independent voters at 54 percent, over Blumenthal at 37 percent.
Of the respondents in the CT Examiner poll, 46 percent said Connecticut was headed in the right direction, and 51 percent said the state was on the wrong track. Only 4 percent did not know.
Additionally, 53 percent said they “disapprove” of the job Joe Biden is doing, while 43 percent “approve.”
RealClearPolitics has shifted the Connecticut U.S. Senate race from “Likely Dem” to “Lean Dem.”
In August, former President Donald Trump endorsed Levy, asserting that Blumenthal “is a mocked and laughed at fool, who said for many years that he was a brave war hero in Vietnam, when the facts later revealed that he had never even been to Vietnam.”
“Leora Levy, on the other hand, has done a fantastic job in life,” Trump continued. “She has served on the Republican National Committee, and is a tireless advocate for Connecticut and for Conservative Values.”
“In the Senate, she will work hard to Grow the Economy, Secure the Border, Fight for Energy Independence, Support our Military and our Vets, champion Election Integrity, Protect the Second Amendment, and Fight Violent and Vicious Crime, which is at the highest level in Connecticut history,” the former president added.
