Live from Music Row Tuesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed GlockStore owner Lenny Magill in the studio to describe the Davidson County Republican Party Shooting Stars Fundraiser at the GlockStore this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Leahy: In the studio, the official guest host of the Tennessee Star Report, Aaron Gulbransen. Hello again, Aaron.
Gulbransen: How’s it going? And we’re talking guns.
Leahy: Which you love talking about. And we have the pleasure of having in the studio our good friend Lenny Magill, the founder and CEO of the GlocksStore. I always love having you in here, Lenny.
Magill: It’s good to be here.
Leahy: Because the energy level just like goes up by about a zillion times and we just have fun. Speaking of fun, there is an event called Shooting Stars at the GlockStore this Saturday, October 29th, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. You’re located at 1930 Air Lane Drive in Nashville. It’s just a few miles from the airport.
Magill: Just off of Briley Parkway and Interstate 40.
Leahy: And it’s a gorgeous facility. I mean, talk about a state-of-the-art, and the size. You walk into this facility and you say, oh wow, this is the place. If you are a gun enthusiast, this is the place to be.
Magill: And of course, we are the Glock experts here in not only Tennessee but the whole country. We are the largest distributor retailer of Glock firearms and Glock parts and accessories in the world. (Chuckles)
Leahy: That’s pretty impressive. And right here in Tennessee. So there’s an event. It’s the Davidson County Republican Party fundraiser this Saturday, October 29th, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. It’s called Shooting Stars. And you’ve got a special event facility there as well, don’t you?
Magill: We do have a meeting room. We can hold certainly about 80 people in the meeting room. But this event is really cool because they’re going to have some shooting “competition,” something to challenge yourself with.
And then we are auctioning off a gun, a Glock itself, and the people who come can obviously support the Republican Party and be aware of who to vote for and what’s going on in this election but also be exposed to the facility. Understand kind of what we do.
We do have a safety class that we’re going to be giving as well. Our rooms are different. We don’t shoot down lanes. We have these shooting rooms that are private, that allow you to learn how to shoot in a private and safe manner. It’s really great.
Leahy: The lane idea, it always struck me as kind of odd that you just have like a narrow lane that you could shoot in. You go to your facilities, you’ve got that whole full 270-degree view.
Magill: Yes, exactly. And that’s what the concept is. It allows you to shoot and train in a more dynamic and realistic manner.
Shooting down one target down a lane at a static target is really kind of, well, boring, and really just bad habits because that doesn’t really happen in the world.
Leahy: Yes, it doesn’t happen at all. And that, again, very impressive when I went there for the training on this. At this event on Saturday at the GlockScore … a fundraiser for the Davidson County Republican Party and you want to just watch, it $50.
If you want to participate, and there’s a lot of interesting things, $100 per ticket. You have a Glock experience, introduction to Glock handguns and pistol marksmanship. You have a low-light scored event. You shoot a weapon, light-equipped Glock. That’s something.
Magill: Yes, it’s really neat. But the concept behind that is that most home defense and self-defense encounters happen at nighttime. A lot of people have weapon lights, and there’s really some really neat technology now. These weapon lights are super small, super bright.
They’re 1,000 lumens, and they literally weigh less than half an ounce, or like five ounces or so. Less than half a pound. But the idea here is that you get to train with this equipment and see what it’s like to actually light up a target and actually engage that target because most people never get a chance to do that.
They may get a light and turn it on and off, but they never shoot with it. You can actually shoot targets with your light, and you’ll see some different things.
There’s a lot of smoke that comes up, and it’s very interesting how people respond, and they get to test their equipment and understand how these lights work in a self-defense scenario.
Leahy: So you got the light-equipped Glock, it’s in near total darkness, and the event is scored – I mean, this is like that’s fun. It’s a lot of fun.
Magill: It’s challenging. A lot of people never get to experience this at any other range, because they won’t let you do it in a lane range. And you can’t really go outside and shoot in your backyard.
Leahy: No, you can’t. So that looks like fun. Also, there’s a multi-engagement scored event where you engage five targets at various angles and distances. It is scored.
Magill: And again, it’s a friendly competition. You’re really competing against yourself, but we will have a winner. And it’s always fun just to have a relative score to see where you’re at and where you need to improve.
And that’s where the shooting concept is. It’s relatively easy to learn how to shoot. It’s not like playing golf or anything like that. Once you learn the concept, it’s kind of like riding a bike. You understand it, but you do want to practice and train and be proficient, and safe and confident and competent.
And that’s what we really strive for. We want everyone to be safe, to understand how the gun works, to understand the operation of the gun, and the basic safety principles.
Leahy: There’s also a raffle at $35 a ticket. You can get a custom-engraved Glock.
Magill: Yes. We do have a custom-engraved Glock that we prepare, and we do the engraving right at our place. We’ve got a laser engraver. As I told you earlier, we are a manufacturer, so that’s really where we do most of our business manufacturing parts and pieces for Glock handguns.
They are performance parts. So just like you would go to, you take a Ford truck and put big tires on it and big wheels on it and jack it up a little bit and some lights on it, and all these accessories. We have a lot of accessories.
