Metro Nashville Council Wants Federal Government to Grant Citizenship to All of City’s Illegal Immigrants So They Don’t Have to Fear Anymore

The Metro Nashville Council is telling President Donald Trump and Congress that it wants them to give Music City’s illegal immigrants citizenship.

The council on Tuesday approved Resolution RS2019-86, which is available to read here. The resolution asks to give “qualified undocumented neighbors a path to citizenship and an opportunity to fully participate in the life of our community without fear.”

There are an estimated 31,000 “undocumented immigrants” in Davidson County, the resolution says, of which 5,000 have been in the United States from five to 20-plus years.

The Metro Council expresses concern the illegal immigrants “fear such actions as family separation” and says that by jumping to the head of the citizenship line, they “could contribute even more to our city’s culture and future.” Many attend public schools and their parents fear to attend school events.

The resolution says the federal government has failed to set a path to citizenship.

Nashville Public Radio interviewed Metro Councilman Bob Nash, a 33-year veteran with Metro Police Department, who helped push the immigration resolution. He told WPLN that while city councils normally do not work on immigration issues, the federal government’s failures are straining the city’s resources.

“And though we might just be a lone voice in the wilderness at the moment, I hope others will join us and that we can become a chorus of voices that will be heard in the halls of Congress and at the White House,” Nash said. “The status quo is no longer acceptable.”

Members of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition have emphasized they want Metro Nashville Police not to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, The Tennessee Star reported in August. This, according to the Nashville-based FOX 17 television station.

TIRRC is calling on Metro Police to develop clear policies and refuse to help ICE carry out civil immigration enforcement in Davidson County. TIRRC is also calling on Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall to terminate an agreement that allows ICE to detain people in local jails.

So just HOW does something like this sneak under the radar? WE–the TAXPAYING CITIZENS- should get a Vote on things like this–not just 27 uber liberals.

BTW TN Star: can we get a list of who attended the meeting and who voted which way please?

Resolution RS2019-86 is nothing more than a sanctuary city law in disguise.

Early in Bob Nash’s police career, he understood politicking is what got you ahead .

What a bunch of no account idiots. Just looking for votes.

Asking for illegil immigrants is all part of Agenda 21. Nashville is a Agenda 21 city. The leaders have all gone to the conferences and been indoctrinated into the game plan. Its an easy way to take over by infiltrating…we see the results in other nations. It quickly changes the culture and breaks down and destroys the foundations economically and politically. It’s all about “take over”. While the people stand back and say nothing and feel powerless. Do your own research.

First of all you must understand that we are a nation of laws which apply to everyone legal or illegal. What this government body wants to do is reward those who have knowingly and willingly broke our law. Secondly you are slapping those who have gone though the legal steps to become a citizen and on top of that you are going to encourage more to come here illegally.
It’s your duty as a Government body to uphold the laws of your cities,State and country. I don’t believe that giving away the rights of being US Citizen just because your wanting to appease those who claim they live in fear. Well are those illegals so ignorant that they didn’t know our laws an that they are the ones who knowingly put themselves and their families in their current position?
Amnesty has never worked in the past and it won’t work now. We as humans are all responsible for our actions. If criminal who has been breaking the law for 10-20 years is caught breaking into your home what do you think will happen to him? Chances are he’ll have to answer for his crime. Just as those who come here illegally should answer for their crime. You know as well as I do families get involved and in the case of illegals both parents are in a sense guilty. One question: If our laws are suppose to apply to everyone then why is this governing body willing to punish some and not others.
If you really want to help then I suggest that you check out website and maybe you can find something that would get them on the right path . Open your eyes people because what you wanting to do isn’t going to make our immigration quagmire any better. The statement ” The resolution says the federal government has failed to set a path to citizenship. ” is hogwash. The steps are readily available for anyone who wants to become a US CITIZEN. https://www.usa.gov/become-us-citizen

One finial comment to this Government Body what your doing is dishonoring those who are become US Citizens the legal way and to the people of this country.

The illegals are straining the city’s resources because they are illegal and should not receive any services, they are NOT citizens. Enforce the law !

  8. Charles

The Nashville city finances are strained due to lack of management and over populated employees!

While we’re at it, why don’t we give amnesty to murderers, bank robbers, and rapists, so they don”t have to fear being caught anymore

  10. Russ

More BS, why does Nashville do what they were sworn to do when elected, enforce the law.

Hold on a second! Doesn’t Tennessee have laws making the formation of “sanctuary city’s” illegal? I remember then State Rep Joe Carr, touting his passage of this legislation during one of his many attempts at higher office. What gives! Is the TN State government not following the law?

This is sick! When is State of TN going to sanction and cut state funds to this “city” for behaving like a sanctuary city? My state legislator told me they passed a law that would sanction any city that behaves like a sanctuary city in TN.

This is sick! When does State of TN cut their state funds for behaving as a sanctuary city in TN. Don’t we have a law passed last summer that sanctions cities that behave this way?

Sounds like Bob Nash is greasing the skids for a future higher political run. He has always been a political boot licker and ladder climber. He was a milquetoast leader of the FOP so having that on his resume is not that meaningful. Bob’s allegiance is to his political career and all his decisions are based upon what is going to get him on the next rung of the ladder. Beware, “sellout” is his middle name.
