U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) has ached for a year for a reason to impeach U.S. Republican President Donald Trump, and he found three “experts” Wednesday who told him what he’s always wanted to hear.
Those “experts” said Trump deserves impeachment.
This happened at a House Judiciary Committee meeting yesterday.
Cohen portrayed himself as an objective observer who has finally gathered all the facts and now believes impeachment is the only option.
“I take no pleasure in the fact that we’re here today,” Cohen said, suggesting he had never said anything to the contrary earlier this year.
“As a patriot who loves America, it pains me that circumstances force us to undertake this grave and solemn obligation. Nonetheless, based simply on the publicly available evidence, it appears that President Trump pressured a foreign government to interfere in an election by investigating his perceived chief political opponent,” he said.
This happened as committee members questioned four legal scholars:
• Noah Feldman of Harvard Law School
• Pamela S. Karlan of Stanford Law School
• Michael Gerhardt of the University of North Carolina School of Law
• Jonathan Turley of the George Washington University Law School
Cohen tried to make the case that Trump abused his power with Ukraine and betrayed the nation’s interests in favor of his own.
Feldman, Gerhardt, and Karlan said they agreed.
Karlan cited the testimony of U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordan Sondland last month before the House Intelligence Committee’s inquiry as reason enough to believe Trump broke the law.
As The Tennessee Star reported last month, however, Sondland’s bold assertion of a “quid pro quo” wilted on cross-examination from Republican committee members. Sondland admitted he simply “presumed” there was a “quid pro quo” and he had no direct evidence the president had asked for a “quid pro quo.”
As reported in July, Cohen said on MSNBC the real reason he wants to see Trump impeached — long before news of the Ukraine call broke — is so Trump can have a “scarlet letter on him.”
“We’re moving along [on impeachment],” Cohen told host David Gura.
“This is a lawless president who should be impeached, and that’s our job under the Constitution if we see violations. It’s a political decision, but we ought to be making a decision in the best interest for democracy, and that’s to impeach the man.”
Cohen, who represents Memphis, also said “I’m not suggesting we impeach for politics.”
“I’m saying we ought to do it because he deserves it,” Cohen said. “We need to put a scarlet letter on him. We need to do our duty.”
The Scarlet Letter is a novel that took place in 17th century Boston about a young woman forced to wear a scarlet letter “A” on her breast as punishment for adultery.
As The Star has reported, Cohen has a well-documented history of making inflammatory and below-the-belt remarks about Trump.
Cohen has compared Trump to accused double murderer O.J. Simpson as well as a Nazi. Cohen has also previously called Trump paranoid and delusional and said Trump is “the worst person in the world.”
Cohen also has accused Trump of raping America.

Cohen wouldn’t know an expert if he/she bit him in the ……………….well you know the rest.
Steve Cohen is an embarrassment to Memphis and to our Country.
Progressive leftist Steve Cohen should move to Seattle and live in Fremont, in sight of the statue of Lenin where he could go daily to pay his respects.. Or he could become a humble political servant of the people and give up his tacky attacks and divisive remarks. Either way would good for Tennessee.
Steve Cohen is an embarrassment to Tennessee! His soliloquy during yesterday’s hearing was laughable. If someone had taken his prepared statement away from him, it would have quickly exposed the true bumbling idiot that he is.
