Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn Appointed to Serve on the Senate Finance Committee

Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) announced that she has been appointed to serve on the Senate Finance Committee for the 118th Congress.

The Senate Finance Committee oversees matters relating to taxation, debt, customs, foreign trade, and health programs under the Social Security Act.

In a statement, Blackburn said she is looking forward to “working with healthcare innovators on ways we can increase access to care and lower patient costs,” as well as “champion trade policies that advance competition in the United States.”

“With inflation still exorbitantly high, we need fiscally responsible tax policies to provide hardworking Tennessee families and business owners with critical relief…The Tennessee business owners who have transformed the Volunteer State into one of the nation’s most important manufacturing hubs should not have to fight for a level playing field while the Chinese Communist Party cheats its way to the top,” Blackburn added.

Blackburn is one of three new Republican members on the committee, along with Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Ron Johnson (R-WI).

“The Finance Committee plays a vital role in shaping our nation’s economy, and these three additions join a strong team on the Republican side of the dais who are committed to promoting economic freedom and opportunity for all Americans,” Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-ID) said in a statement.

“Whether it’s addressing our national debt, protecting pro-growth tax reforms, expanding access to affordable, quality health care, or providing equal opportunities in our trade deals, Senators Johnson, Tillis and Blackburn are up to the task, and I look forward to working with them on the Committee,” Crapo added.

In addition to the Finance Committee, Blackburn also serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, and the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee.

If a politician wants to impress me pass a bill requiring all bills stand alone. No more pork sucking the finances out of the primary bill. Make ALL proposed bill be a stand-alone (pass or fail) bill. To many times a bill has to be refinanced because of pork. Some of us know how politicians work the system.
