Tennessee politicians showed their respect for American workers on Labor Day.
America has celebrated Labor Day in some form since 1882, which is an “annual celebration of the economic and social achievements of American workers,” according to GovInfo.
The 2026’s celebration of Labor Day marks the 133rd time it has been recognized as a federal holiday. In 1894, then-President Grover Cleveland made the first Monday in September a federal holiday to commemorate Labor Day.
U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who is also the favorite to be Tennessee’s next governor, said on Labor Day, Americans “honor the men and women who built this country and keep it running.”
“Thanks to President [Donald Trump], we’re putting American workers first again. Happy Labor Day!” she added.
Blackburn’s fellow Senator, Bill Hagerty, thanked the “Tennesseans who roll up their sleeves each day to serve their fellow neighbors.”
“Because of our farmers, manufacturers, small business owners, and all of the entrepreneurs in between, the Volunteer State is daily attracting competitive new investment, and remains one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family. Happy Labor Day!” Hagerty (R-TN) noted.
In addition to Tennessee’s senators, Governor Bill Lee said the Volunteer State is “grateful for the hardworking men & women across our state who keep our communities & economy thriving.”
The governor said he and his wife wished “all Tennesseans a safe & blessed Labor Day.”
Tennessee State House Republicans called Tennessee the state with “the greatest workforce in America.”
According to U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03), he is “proud to support Tennessee and America’s workers.”
“Thank you for your hard work that keeps our country strong,” he added.
The Tennessee Dept of Economic & Community Development said, “ From manufacturing floors and small businesses to classrooms, construction sites, farms, hospitals and offices across the state, Tennessee’s workforce is the foundation of our success.”
“As we continue working to strengthen communities, attract investment and create greater opportunity, we’re grateful for the people whose talent, dedication and work ethic make Tennessee one of the best places to live, work and do business,” the state governmental agency added.
