TVA board members are not legally allowed to comment on the organization’s woke tweets, a representative from the Harwell campaign told The Tennessee Star.
TN-5 candidate and Trump-appointee to the Tennessee Valley Authority board Beth Harwell “could not comment on the federal agency’s woke tweets due to legal restrictions placed on her due to her status as an appointee,” said the campaign representative.
President Trump appointed Harwell in 2020 and she was sworn in on January 5, 2021.
Board appointees sign a document which preclude them from speaking with the press about agency matters.
Reportedly, the only person on TVA’s board who is legally authorized to speak to the press is the chairman.
The Star previously reported that the federally funded utility company that serves customers in Tennessee joined the social justice chorus in welcoming LGBT pride month.
“Today marks the first day of June and the first day of Pride! We hope this month is a time for everyone to celebrate being their authentic selves!” the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) said on June 1 in a tweet.
The company also works in the surrounding states like Alabama and Mississippi.
The Tennessee Valley Authority, according to its website, “has worked tirelessly [since being founded in 1933] … to make life better for the people of the Tennessee Valley region, which spans 80,000 square miles across parts of seven states in the Southeast. Every day we work to improve lives by providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable electricity; supporting a robust, award-winning economic development policy that has created prosperous communities throughout our region; and upholding an environmental stewardship program that has created some of the most beautiful and productive waterways in the United States.”
Woke tweets celebrating “Pride Month” do not appear to serve the mission described in the TVA’s statement of purpose.

What could Harwell say about tweets Endorsing pride month? That TVA shouldn’t support pride month. What would it matter. It is all nonsense. Our country has lost its way.
T.V.A. just recently added a Diversity Office. Also did a big survey with their employees and their sexual preferences. Where are our conservative U.S. Senators from Tennessee? Have heard nothing!
Nothing prestigious about TCA- NOTHING!!
And what is RINO Beth going to do about it? Nothing because she is all about the “appointments” and “prestige” that comes with being a TVA Bd Member
