Tennessee House Majority Whip Johnny Garrett Running for TN-06 U.S. House Seat

Tennessee House Majority Whip Johnny Garrett (R-Goodlettsville) announced he is running to represent Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District in Congress.

Garrett, who was elected to the Tennessee House in 2018 and has run for reelection uncontested by a Republican since, filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) formally launching his congressional candidacy.

“As President Trump leads us into the Golden Age of America, he needs more America First fighters who will continue the fight for lower taxes, secure borders, peace through strength, keeping men out of women’s sports, and ensuring our nation is safe and secure,” Garrett said in a press release.

Garrett said if elected to Congress, he would continue his track record of “fighting against the Left’s woke insanity that has hurt Tennesseans,” especially when it comes to the weaponization of justice and policies regarding safety and the economy.

Further, Garrett pledged his support for President Donald Trump’s America First agenda, saying, “I will support President Trump’s America First agenda that brings common sense back to our homes, our classrooms, our military, and our federal government.”

“In critical times like these, it’s vitally important that Tennessee has leaders in Washington who work tirelessly to further the conservative values of the people. I am ready to be that leader and ensure Tennesseans prosper in Donald Trump’s new Golden Age of America,” Garrett added.

Nine of Garrett’s bills he sponsored in the General Assembly earlier this year went on to be approved by the governor and become law – HB0817, HB0908, HB0910, HB0911, HB1038, HB1039, HB1073, HB1074, and HB6006.

A total of 19 counties – Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, Davidson, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Scott, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, White, and Wilson – make up Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District.

The district is currently represented by incumbent U.S. Representative John Rose (R-TN-06), who is running in the 2026 Tennessee gubernatorial election.

I do not know of Mr. Garrett but it sure looks like prospective candidates for this open seat are like ants attracted to honey. Now all I have to do it attempt to determine which of them are truly conservative both fiscally and socially.

  2. John Bumpus

I think that Garrett is a good man. I do not think that the voters in this congressional district will have any regrets if they support and elect Mr. Garrett.
