Crom’s Crommentary: Dems and Media Avoiding Hot-Button Issues by Focusing on Non-Issues

Live from Music Row, Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for another edition of Crom’s Crommentary.

CROM CARMICHAEL:

Michael, I’ve read some stories recently and observed things on TV that are just kind of interesting. The French lady speaking on behalf of the president has been saying gasoline prices at the pump have fallen at record levels. For her to say that and think that it matters when gas prices go up three dollars and then they go down a dollar, and this drop of a dollar is exceptional, it’s just kind of funny.

But they’re not the only ones who are doing that. Yahoo! News headline: “Home Price Growth Slowed by Record Amount in July.” Now let me read that headline again: “Home Price Growth Slowed by Record Amount in July.”

The amount of home prices has gone up in the last 12 months, 15.8 percent. But in July they barely went up at all. And this is supposed to be, now, good news for the economy. And then The Wall Street Journal in their real estate section says “rents dropped for the first time in two years after climbing to new records.”

And then if you read the article, listen to this. August apartment asking rents nationally fell 0.1 percent from July to August. So that means, by the way, Michael, that if you’re paying $2,000 a month in rent, then the next apartment that you rent will only cost you $1,998.

And so what you see is, you see the media, which is doing everything it can. But perhaps the most interesting one of all is a guy running for Congress was asked by the moderator during a debate, do you believe the 2020 election was free, fair and untainted, and Joe Biden is the duly elected president of the United States? the moderator asked.

And do you feel confident about the election process this year? And this is how the Republican responded: Sir, Joe Biden is president of the United States. And if you don’t believe me, go to your gas pump, check that out, or go to your grocery store and look at your prices, and that’ll tell you who’s the president.

I thought that was a fabulous response. And that apparently, when you look at how nervous the Democrats are when they’re talking about the economy, in fact, they try to talk about anything other than, they don’t want to talk about the economy, they don’t want to talk about crime, and they now don’t want to talk about immigration. So they’re really left to talk about abortion.

They are now a single-issue party. And while there was a great surge on the issue of abortion, once people realize that it’s now not a federal issue and that the Supreme Court did not outlaw abortion outright, that it’s now left up to the states, that issue, I think, has settled down considerably in terms of its relative importance.

That doesn’t mean it’s not important to some people, but the relative importance [is minor], except for the hardcore leftists who are going to vote Democrat anyway. Now, most people said, okay, well, 15 weeks in my state, that’s reasonable. I can go with that. So now let me look at the other issues.

And so it looks to me like there’s a level of desperation that is happening. And my concern now is whether or not there’s going to be some kind of October surprise, perhaps in the foreign policy realm, to try to cause the American people to somehow rally around this president.
