Tennessee Highway Patrol Confirms ‘Biden-Era FBI’ Told Officers to Release Kilmar Abrego Garcia During 2022 Traffic Stop Despite Speeding and License Violations

The Tennessee Highway Patrol contacted The Tennessee Star on Thursday night to confirm its earlier reporting that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the citizen of El Salvador who was deported last month by the Trump administration, was stopped by THP in 2022 but ordered to be released by the FBI.

A THP spokesman told The Star, “The Tennessee Highway Patrol can confirm a 2022 traffic stop of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who was stopped for speeding on I-40.”

Tennessee Nonprofits to Face Liability for Criminal Actions of Illegal Immigrants Under Law Sent to Gov. Bill Lee for Signature

Charitable organizations and nonprofits in Tennessee that provide housing to illegal immigrants will face civil liability for their criminal actions, should a court determine the charities acted negligently through their support, under legislation passed on Wednesday and sent to Governor Bill Lee to be signed into law.

Senate Bill (SB) 227 by State Senator Brent Taylor (R-Memphis) was passed earlier this month, and on Wednesday the State House passed Taylor’s version of the legislation along partisan lines, with 70 votes in favor and 23 votes against.

Bill Transferring Human Rights Commission Duties to Attorney General Passes Tennessee State House

Lawmakers in the Tennessee State House on Wednesday passed legislation to reassign the responsibility to handle key complaints from to the Human Rights Commission to the Tennessee Attorney General, with more than two-thirds of lawmakers voting to pass the legislation along partisan lines.

As passed on Wednesday, House Bill 910 by State Representative Johnny Garrett (R-Goodlettsville) would transfer the majority of responsibilities from the Human Rights Commission, whose board members are appointed by Tennessee’s Governor, House Speaker, and the Lieutenant Governor, to the Tennessee Attorney General.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) dodged questions posed by The Tennessee Star in a Wednesday press inquiry about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the citizen of El Salvador who was recently deported under President Donald Trump, and was detained by law enforcement while traveling through Tennessee in late 2022.

Additionally, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS), which oversees THP, did not respond to questions related to Abrego Garcia’s presence in the state, which multiple sources confirmed to The Star on Wednesday, including that Abrego Garcia and his seven passengers were released at the request of the Biden administration’s FBI.

Trump Weighs Tariffs as Tool to Break China’s Stranglehold on ‘Critical Minerals’

President Donald Trump ordered a probe into new tariffs on “critical minerals” amid a push to reduce America’s reliance on imported goods, particularly those from China.

Trump signed an executive order directing Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to investigate the possibility and feasibility of new tariffs on “critical minerals” such as cobalt, lithium, nickel and others crucial to production of advanced goods like computer chips. The national security probe falls under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, the same law Trump used to enact a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum.
