DOJ Asks Judge to Delay Hearing for Abrego Garcia Lawsuit Until New Immigration Case Resolved

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday asked Obama-appointed District Court Judge Paula Xinis to delay her October 6 hearing for the latest lawsuit filed by Kilmar Abrego Garcia against the Trump administration, which sought to delay the government’s previous effort to deport him to Uganda. 

Noting that Abrego Garcia recently asked for Xinis to grant discovery against the Trump administration to determine how it selected Uganda, despite the government now seeking his removal to Eswatini, a landlocked African nation, and citing their earlier admonitions that many Abrego Garcia’s claims should be adjudicated in immigration and appellate courts, the DOJ attorneys asked Xinis to delay the hearing until at least two weeks after his immigration disputes conclude.

School Superintendent Allegedly Fled ICE Prior to Immigration Arrest, DHS Claims to Recover Gun from Vehicle

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Friday announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested of Ian Andre Roberts, a school superintendent for Des Moines Public Schools, who the agency said was issued a final order of removal under the Biden administration. 

In a press release, DHS stated that Roberts was identified and approached on Friday by ICE Des Moines agents, but that after the agents stated their identities, “he sped away.”

The pharmaceutical company behind Tylenol privately acknowledged the likelihood of an association between its drug in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism in children seven years ago, company documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation show.

“The weight of the evidence is starting to feel heavy to me,” said Rachel Weinstein, U.S. director of epidemiology for Janssen, the pharmaceutical arm of Johnson & Johnson, in 2018. Johnson & Johnson marketed Tylenol at the time but in 2023 spun off its consumer products division into a separate company called Kenvue.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) deployed a significant number of agents to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, many of whom later complained that the bureau was driven by political bias, according to an after-action report obtained by Just The News.

The 50-page document shows the FBI sent agents to the Capitol during the riot, including inside the building, without clear instructions, Just The News reported on Thursday. The report, located by FBI Director Kash Patel’s team, was recently turned over to the House Judiciary Committee’s special subcommittee investigating the incident, according to the outlet.

DHS Collected DNA from 2,000 U.S. Citizens Without Due Process, Now Keeping It in in a Law Enforcement Database

Reason   For years, the federal government has been amassing DNA profiles of noncitizens. But recently released Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data reveal that officials knowingly collected the DNA of approximately 2,000 American citizens and added it to a national genetic surveillance database used by law enforcement.  This genetic collection was made possible by a March 2020 rule change to the 2005 DNA Fingerprint Act, which removed the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) discretion to exempt detained noncitizens from DNA collection. This drastically expanded the number of DNA samples the DHS collects and uploads to the federal database known as the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Between 2020 and 2024, the CBP alone—which is only one of the many agencies under DHS—added between 1.3 and 2.8 million people to CODIS, compared to just 30,000 detainees added between 2005 and 2020, according to Georgetown Law’s Center on Privacy and Technology. Of this total, CBP provided CODIS with the DNA of between 1,947 and 2,131 U.S. citizens.  READ THE FULL STORY

Sinclair Says It’s Bringing Back ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on Its Stations Tonight

CBS News   Two major TV station owners, Sinclair Broadcasting and Nexstar Media Group, announced on Friday that they are returning “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to their ABC stations, ending the preemption of the late-night show over remarks Kimmel had made following the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.  Sinclair said in a statement Friday afternoon that the show will be back on the air on its ABC affiliates tonight, and a few hours later later, Nexstar announced it’s bringing the show back tonight as well. Sinclair owns 38 ABC stations across the U.S. and Nexstar owns 33. Disney’s ABC brought Kimmel’s show back on Tuesday following a six-day suspension, but stations owned by Sinclair and Nexstar — about a quarter of the network’s affiliates — had continued to air other programming in that time slot instead. Judge Temporarily Blocks Deportations of Migrant Honduran, Guatemalan Children

The Hill   A federal judge in Arizona temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s efforts to deport close to 70 unaccompanied minors from Honduras and Guatemala on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Rosemary Márquez granted a preliminary injunction preventing “the repatriation or removal of any Plaintiff Child without a valid voluntary departure order or removal order issued by an immigration judge.”   She criticized the government’s argument that it was sending the children back to reunite them with their parents, writing it was “dangerously unclear” whether the plan would realize this outcome. Memphis Mayor Promises to Use ‘Every New Resource’ to Lower Crime as National Guard Deployment, $100 Million Safety Plan Loom

Memphis Mayor Paul Young has promised his administration will use “every new resource” in its effort to curtail crime in the city as it prepares for the deployment of the National Guard, which President Donald Trump recently said would be deployed to Memphis as part of his nationwide crackdown on crime.

Young’s comments were released shortly before Governor Bill Lee confirmed the National Guard deployment would begin next week, stating that 13 law enforcement agencies will support the effort as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force.
