DOJ Moves to Boot Boasberg from Case Ahead of Contempt Hearings

James Boasberg

The Department of Justice on Friday asked a federal appeals court to remove U.S. District Judge James Boasberg from an ongoing case over the administrations invocation of the Alien Enemies Act to deport members of Venezuelan gangs.

Baosberg has planned contempt hearings over the administration’s response to his orders, despite the Supreme Court previously shutting down his initial stays. The DOJ made its request to remove him in a filing to the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Reps. Andy Ogles, Byron Donalds Lead House Effort for ‘Charlie Kirk Act’ to Reverse Obama-Era Propaganda Rules

Byron Donalds and Andy Ogles

U.S. Representatives Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) and Byron Donalds (R-FL-19) on Friday sponsored the House version of the Charlie Kirk Act of 2025, a legislative effort to reverse a bill signed into law by former President Barack Obama in 2012.

Ogles’ office explained in a press release that the Charlie Kirk Act, originally introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), would amend the changes to federal legislation made by the Smith Mundt Modernization Act of 2012, which critics said allowed the federal government to distribute propaganda within the nation’s borders.

It’s an open question after pediatric cardiologist Kirk Milhoan allegedly lost his practice “solely because” he now chairs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which has reoriented its recommendations around individual decisionmaking since Kennedy remade the panel.

Treasury Rachets Up Investigations Targeting Somali Community for Fraud in Minnesota

The Associated Press   The Treasury Department is targeting businesses that people use to wire money to family members abroad as the Trump administration rachets up investigations into fraud within Minnesota’s Somali community, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Friday. President Donald Trump has targeted the Somalian diaspora in Minnesota with immigration enforcement actions and has made a series of disparaging comments about the community. He has said the state is “a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity,” though there has been little evidence to support that claim. The new action was prompted in part by a series of fraud cases, including a nonprofit called Feeding Our Future accused of stealing pandemic aid meant for school meals. Prosecutors have put the losses from that case at $300 million. READ THE FULL STORY

Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado Appears Open to U.S. Military Pressure Against Maduro

CBS News   Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado appears to be open to U.S. military action in her country to help oust President Nicolas Maduro.  “I will welcome more and more pressure so that Maduro understands that he has to go, that his time is over,” the Nobel Peace Prize winner said in an interview Friday with “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” “I will insist something that I’ve said several times before, this is not conventional regime change. This cannot be compared to other cases, like countries in the Middle East.” “We had an election,” she continued. “Regime change was already mandated by over 70% of the population, and what we need is support to enforce that decision.”  READ THE FULL STORY

Analysis: Epstein Used the Ivy League to Launder His Reputation

Jeffrey Epstein

Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein ensured that a Google search for his name would return several websites about his donations to science before any headlines about his 2008 conviction, new documents show — the clearest evidence yet that he courted the Ivy League to whitewash his sexual crimes.

Epstein had help amplifying links about his scientific largess in order to crowd out headlines about his exploitation of underage girls, emails released by the House Oversight Committee on Nov. 12 show. One aide to Epstein described the project as “wack-a-mole,” hammering headlines about his pedophilia into search engine obscurity with hyperlinks portraying Epstein as a benevolent booster of evolutionary biology and mathematics.

Indiana Lt. Gov. Says Trump Threatened State Funding over Redistricting

Indiana and Trump

Indiana GOP Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith this week said that President Donald Trump threatened to strip the state of federal funding if Republicans did not approve a redrawn congressional map that favored Republicans in all nine of the state’s districts.

The state Senate voted down the map redraw on Thursday, leading Trump allies to announce primary challenges to every Republican that opposed the plan. Beckwith revealed that Trump had ramped up the pressure ahead of the vote in a now-deleted post.

Obama-Appointed Judge Grants More Relief to Abrego Garcia After Filing Requests Restraining Order Against Hypothetical ICE Action

Kilmar Abrego Garcia

U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis granted more relief to Kilmar Abrego Garcia on Friday after Abrego Garcia’s immigration lawyers asked her to issue a ruling prohibiting further Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detainment after his Thursday release.

The order by Xinis, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, confirms that it was requested by Abrego Garcia’s attorneys when, after being released from ICE custody, the agency again informed him that he is subject to a final deportation order from 2019, and informed the alleged human smuggler that his release would be subject to conditions due to his status.

Immigration Attorney Confirms Release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia as White House Confirms Plan to Appeal

Kilmar Abrego Garcia and CASA representative Lydia Walther-Rodriguez

Immigration attorney Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg of the firm Murray Osorio, one of the two firms representing Kilmar Abrego Garcia in his immigration lawsuits against the Trump administration, on Thursday confirmed his client left U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention in Pennsylvania.

His departure from the facility, where he has been held for months following his pretrial release in Tennessee, came just hours after an order was signed by U.S. District Court Judge Paula Xinis, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, which demanded his immediate release. Xinis argued that Abrego Garcia’s 2019 immigration case concluded without a viable final deportation order, making ICE unable to detain or deport the citizen of El Salvador who illegally entered the United States more than a decade ago.

Commentary: Donald Trump Marked the Real Beginning of the 21st Century

Donald Trump

Since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center towers, many have designated September 11, 2001 as the true close of the 20th century. That event indeed changed many things in the United States and in the world. It was a sign that the American-led global order established after World War II had become fragile and hollowed out. But in the decades that followed, our leaders clung to the pieties and perspectives of the pre-9/11 period, applying obsolete solutions in a new era with much different problems.

Legal Challenges Loom Over DOJ Effort to Restrict Male Access to Women’s Prisons

Female inmate

by Megan Brock   President Donald Trump’s Justice Department is taking further action to keep male inmates away from women’s prisons, but potential obstacles remain. The Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a memo on Dec. 2 reinforcing a January 2025 executive order requiring inmates to be housed according to sex, a policy that challenges Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards published in 2012 allowing males to be housed in female prisons. It’s uncertain if states with policies allowing men in women’s prisons will comply with these news standards which are used to guide corrections agencies at the local and state level.  “For years, officials have used ‘because PREA’ as an excuse to house violent, predatory men in facilities meant for women — a practice that defies logic, safety, and basic decency,” Leigh Ann O’Neill, chief legal affairs officer at America First Policy Institute told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This memo signals the beginning of the end of that dangerous and indefensible rationale. And while it’s an important step, there’s far more work ahead to ensure that even progressive states with laws that allow males to be housed with female inmates are pulled into line,” O’Neill said. The DCNF reached out to several state…
