Cookeville Christmas Parade Excludes Young Republicans, LGBT Pride Group to ‘Minimize Distraction’

Cookeville Christmas

The organizers of the Cookeville Christmas Parade announced on Sunday that it would exclude two organizations, the Putnam County Young Republicans and the LGBT organization, Upper Cumberland Pride, would be excluded from its parade, “to minimize distraction” from the birth of Jesus Christ.

“Our goal from the beginning has been to point others to the reason for the holiday that we are celebrating. We wanted to make much of the person of Jesus born in Bethlehem. In efforts to minimize distraction from Him, we planned this event with stated prohibitions of special interest groups,” the organizers wrote in a post to social media. “Although we agree there is a time and an important role played by special interest groups, we didn’t think this is it.”

Kilmar Abrego Garcia ‘Disputes the Validity’ of Amended Final Deportation Order, but Claims it Justifies Release

Kilmar Abrego Garcia

In response U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) motion arguing District Court Judge Paula Xinis must dissolve her temporary restraining order blocking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from detaining Kilmar Abrego Garcia following the corrections to his final deportation order made last week, Abrego Garcia’s immigration attorneys on Wednesday argued their client is ineligible for detention because the 30-day window to appeal the immigration court’s ruling expired in 2019.

Confirming Abrego Garcia “disputes the validity” of the final deportation order amended by Chief Immigration Judge Philip Taylor, the filing argued the court should nonetheless, “accept the order for what it purports to be,” because it does not change Xinis’ December 11 orders requiring his release and blocking further ICE detention.

China and Trump

President Trump spoke by phone to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Monday November 24 and later posted on Truth Social, “Our relationship with China is extremely strong!” The warm feelings from Washington came on the heels of the two leaders holding a productive meeting in Korea recently and scheduling several more get-confabs for the year ahead.

Commentary: ‘Protecting Kids’ Becomes a Cover for Expanding Government Power

Kid phone

Age assurance on the internet is no longer theoretical. With states like Texas, Utah, and Louisiana mandating government ID checks for even routine online activity, the digital landscape is shifting—fast. The question now isn’t whether age assurance will shape the internet, but who will set the rules and how far government power will reach.

Unfortunately, the leading federal proposal on the table—the App Store Accountability Act (ASAA)—pushes us toward a future defined by broad government intrusion cloaked in the language of “protecting kids.” History shows that whenever lawmakers start invoking children to justify sweeping new mandates, alarms should go off. These efforts often function as Trojan horses, smuggling expanded government authority into private enterprise and personal liberty under the guise of safety.
