State Rep. Justin Pearson Says Credit for Killing Industrial Projects in Memphis Belongs to Him, Not U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen

Justin Pearson and Steve Cohen

State Representative Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) said in Tuesday’s remarks to German-owned Politico that U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN-09), whom he is challenging in the Democratic primary next year, deserves little credit for the cancellation of two industrial projects within the 9th Congressional District.

According to Pearson, despite Cohen appearing to actively participate in the successful efforts to stop the Byhalia oil pipeline in 2021 and to close the Sterilization Services of Tennessee facility in Memphis two years ago, the congressman only acted because Pearson and his allies urged him.

Tennessee Democrat’s Bill Would Require AI Data Centers to ‘Devote’ Half of Computing Power for ‘Public Benefit’

John Ray Clemmons

Tennessee State Representative John Ray Clemmons (D-Nashville) last week introduced House Bill (HB) 1461, which would introduce a requirement for companies operating “high performance computing (HPC),” which appears to include artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, to “devote 50 percent of the computing data and processing output” of their facilities, “for a public benefit.”

Introduced on December 16, Clemmons’ legislation specifically defines a “public benefit” as, “a positive material effect or a reduction in negative material effect on individuals, businesses, and communities in this state.”

Commentary: The Christmas Film with a Perfect Message for Our Time

John Doe

This time of year, everyone – myself included – airs out their favorite Christmas movies, talking about the wholesomeness and meaning and warm fuzzies they bring each time they’re watched. Topping the list are films such as “Home Alone,” “A Christmas Story,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and even “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

One of my favorite Christmas films, however, never makes this list of classics. I suppose that’s not surprising. In fact, most people might say that except for a few scenes at the end of the film, it’s not even a Christmas film at all.

U.S. Economy Sets 2-Year High for Growth, Exceeding Analysts’ Expectations by More than 40 Percent

shopping

The Chicken Littles of the American economy have egg on their faces following the Commerce Department’s report Tuesday showing annual growth of 4.3% in the third quarter from July through September, decisively beating analysts’ expectations of 3% growth and improving on the second quarter’s 3.8%, the Associated Press reported.

It’s the most rapid expansion of the economy in two years, driven by consumer and government spending and exports, suggesting that President Trump’s much-ballyhooed economic policies, especially tariffs, are not hampering the economy on the whole.

Dogs on Meth, ‘Binge Drinking Ferrets’ Featured in Rand Paul’s Festivus Report on Wasteful Spending

Rand Paul

The federal government spent tens of millions of dollars on gruesome and pointless experiments on animals from dogs to dolphins, according to 2025’s “Festivus” report by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., which uses the Seinfeld-invented Dec. 23 holiday to catalog more than $1.6 trillion in what he perceives as wasteful government spending.

Paul especially highlights animal experiments in the report, which credits investigations by the anti-animal testing White Coat Waste Project for bringing several to his attention. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth also credited WCW and Paul with exposing the Navy’s sodomization of cats in last year’s Festivus report.

Military Recruitment Already Well Ahead of Goals Under Trump

Boot camp

The military is already smashing its recruitment goals under President Donald Trump just a few months into the new fiscal year, the Pentagon announced Monday.

The armed services have already met 40% of their delayed entry goals for fiscal year 2026 after multiple branches met their 2025 goals months ahead of schedule, the best numbers in 15 years, according to the Pentagon. The Trump administration made a large push to spur recruitment on the heels of lackluster numbers during the Biden years due to both policy and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

California Blocked from Secretly Transitioning Kids in School

students

California teachers can no longer hide children’s gender identities from their parents following a permanent injunction issued Monday in a class-action lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed by teachers who felt a moral duty to protect children and strongly objected to being dishonest with parents about their kids, as the state’s “Parental Exclusion Policies” required them to do. Several California Department of Education policies were “designed to create a zone of secrecy around a school student who expresses gender incongruity,” according to the court order, preventing teachers and school staff from sharing vital information with parents.

Trump Administration Seeks to Cancel Thousands of Asylum Cases

CBS News   The Trump administration has mounted a nationwide campaign to void the asylum claims of thousands of immigrants with active cases in immigration court by arguing that they can be deported to countries that are not their own, according to internal government data obtained by CBS News. The effort appears to have intensified in recent weeks, targeting asylum-seekers with pending cases in immigration courts in Atlanta, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Texas and elsewhere across the U.S., multiple immigration lawyers and certified legal representatives told CBS News. Immigration courts are not part of the judicial branch. Instead, they are administrative entities run by the Justice Department, which employs and oversees the judges that adjudicate the cases of people facing deportation. Lawyers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement represent the government in the proceedings. READ THE FULL STORY

Pennsylvania High Court Rules Police Can Access Google Searches Without Warrant

Reclaim the Net   The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has a new definition of “reasonable expectation.” According to the justices, it’s no longer reasonable to assume that what you type into Google is yours to keep. In a decision that reads like a love letter to the surveillance economy, the court ruled that police were within their rights to access a convicted rapist’s search history without a warrant. The reasoning is that everyone knows they’re being watched anyway. The opinion, issued Tuesday, leaned on the idea that the public has already surrendered its privacy to Silicon Valley. Supreme Court Won’t Allow National Guard Deployment to Chicago

The Hill   The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled President Trump may not deploy the National Guard to the Chicago area for now amid his push for military troops to patrol the streets of Democratic-led cities, a major loss for the president at the high court.   After more than two months of consideration, the court refused to pause a district judge’s ruling temporarily blocking hundreds of National Guard members from being federalized and deployed across Illinois, rejecting the government’s emergency request.     “At this preliminary stage, the Government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,” the unsigned order reads. Report: U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz Preparing to Introduce Limits on Sports Prop Betting

Breitbart   Democrat U.S. Senator Brian Schatz is reportedly preparing to introduce legislation next year to put limits on sports prop betting after repeated gambling scandals in professional and college sports continue to break out across the country. The news of the Senator’s effort comes from podcaster Pablo Torre, who recently revealed that the Democrat Hawaiian Senator is set to introduce a bill to curb prop betting and “restore public trust in sports.” Prop betting — which is short for proposition betting — is betting on single events or bets on a particular player’s performance in ways un-tethered to the outcomes of games. This type of wagering allows gamblers to bet on how often a player might score, or how many touchdown passes, basket attempts, home runs, etc., a player might make in a particular game or season. Prop bets can cover a wide range of actions and outcomes in sports gambling. READ THE FULL STORY
