Scott Adams’ celebration of life will be livestreamed in real time to include his devoted online following, even as the in-person memorial service remains private for close family and friends.
“Even in his final days, his wish was simple and heartfelt: that the people who supported him, learned from him, and walked beside him — whether up close or from afar — would remain part of his story through his very last breath,” a family statement read.

The cartoonist, author, and longtime host of the daily livestream Coffee with Scott Adams (CWSA) passed away Tuesday at age 68 after a public and courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Adams announced his Stage IV diagnosis in May 2025, revealing the cancer had spread to his bones, and continued sharing updates and insights with his audience until nearly the end, livestreaming from his hospital bed and later from home hospice care.
His ex-wife, Shelly Miles, announced his death during what would have been the next episode of his show, reading a prepared final message Adams wrote on New Year’s Day.

Born June 8, 1957, in Windham, New York, Adams first gained widespread fame in the late 1980s with the Dilbert comic strip — a sharp satire of corporate life and bureaucracy that appeared in thousands of newspapers worldwide, spawned books, merchandise, and an animated television series, and became a cultural touchstone for office workers.
In later years, he transitioned to authorship with bestselling books on self-improvement, persuasion, and success — including How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big (2013), Win Bigly (2017), and Loserthink (2019). He also built a devoted digital community through his daily CWSA livestream, where he offered commentary on productivity, current events, and life strategies.
To honor his memory in a way that aligns with his lifelong mission, the family invites supporters to pick up one of his books and pass it along to someone who might benefit from the hope, perspective, or encouragement he worked to provide. “Sharing his words is a meaningful way to keep his spirit moving forward,” the open letter reads.
Adams’ life was marked by immense creative success, a direct and influential connection with his audience, and later controversy — particularly after February 2023 remarks on his Coffee with Scott Adams livestream, where he reacted to a poll about racial attitudes and advised that “no one should live near people who don’t like them.”
Though he later defended his expanded commentary as hyperbole, the backlash was swift: Andrews McMeel Syndication severed ties with him, and Dilbert was dropped by hundreds of newspapers nationwide — including major outlets like The Washington Post, USA Today affiliates, Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times‘ international edition — effectively ending its decades-long print run.
Despite the cancellation, Adams relaunched Dilbert as a webcomic titled Dilbert Reborn, introduced new projects such as Robots Read the News on his own platforms (including Locals), and leaned further into his daily livestream, which had built a dedicated following of tens to hundreds of thousands of viewers and subscribers.
Through ongoing career and health challenges Adams maintained near-daily engagement with followers, turning his platform into a resilient hub for connection, clarity, and candid life updates until nearly the end.
In his final message, read aloud after his death, Adams reflected on this journey, emphasizing usefulness as his desired legacy: “I had an amazing life. I gave it everything I had. If you got any benefits from my work, I’m asking you to pay it forward as best you can. That is the legacy I want.”
