U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced it has lodged a detainer for a 48-year-old Mexican national accused of driving onto a Nashville sidewalk and striking four pedestrians in a June hit-and-run, including two people in wheelchairs.
ICE New Orleans lodged the detainer for Felipe Alvarado Hernandez earlier this month following his July 29 arrest in connection with the June 13 crash near Demonbreun Street and Music Circle East.
According to ICE, investigators allege Hernandez was attempting to make a left turn when he drove his pickup truck onto the sidewalk, striking four pedestrians waiting to cross the street. Officers later located Hernandez (pictured above) and the truck at a home in Antioch, where ICE said he admitted to driving the vehicle the morning of the crash.

One of the victims remained hospitalized in Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Burn Unit as of July 29, according to ICE.
Hernandez faces four counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, four counts of failing to give information or render aid, four counts of financial responsibility violations involving injury, four counts of reckless endangerment with a vehicle, and multiple other charges, according to Davidson County records.
ICE said Hernandez previously agreed to removal in 2004 after being referred to immigration authorities following an arrest for retail fraud in Michigan. The agency said he later illegally re-entered the United States.
ICE New Orleans Acting Field Office Director Scott Ladwig said the agency would continue working with local law enforcement when illegal immigrants are accused of crimes.
“When illegal aliens break our laws and endanger our communities, ICE will work with our law enforcement partners to ensure they face the consequences of their actions. Our officers remain committed to enforcing the law professionally, protecting the public, and upholding the trust placed in us by the American people,” Ladwig said.
