ICE Makes 1,000 Job Offers After DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Promised Nashville Would See ‘More Federal Officers’

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on Thursday that it had already extended more than 1,000 tentative job offers in a press release issued just two days after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) unveiled its “Defend the Homeland” campaign to recruit new ICE agents.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said the surge in recruitment represents interest from “patriots who want to serve their country and make a difference in people’s daily lives.” He noted the financial benefits being offered after Congress passed the Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025, which provided nearly $30 million in funding for the agency.

“People who have received tentative offers will qualify for the incredible benefits we’re offering under this unprecedented initiative,” said Lyons, “including $50,000 bonuses and student loan forgiveness.”

The potential new hires were announced just weeks after DHS Secretary Kristi Noem visited Nashville in July, when she said that cities where local leaders passed ordinances blocking law enforcement from cooperating with ICE would see additional scrutiny from the agency.

“Clearly, when there is a sanctuary city or there’s a sanctuary state, we’re going to have to put more federal officers there,” Noem told the press in Nashville.

She also made remarks specific to Mayor Freddie O’Connell, who modified an executive order in response to a May enforcement operation that saw nearly 200 illegal immigrants detained, and was accused of doxxing after the names of DHS agents were published by the city as a result.

“Mayor Freddie O’Connell has gone after our ICE individuals and agents that work with HSI. He’s openly doxxed them, revealed their information to the public, encouraged people to work against them and their efforts to clean up the streets of Nashville, and has forced the employees of the city of Nashville to document every single interaction that they have with federal immigration authorities,” said Noem last month.

The secretary added, “O’Connell and his administration are playing politics, and they are playing politics to a dangerous level that are risking people’s lives. Despite the mayor’s reckless behavior, we’re going to continue to enforce the law here in Nashville.”

A federal judge recently refused to rule that the statements Noem made during the press conference about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the alleged human smuggler currently awaiting trial in Nashville, violated a local court rule, declaring he was unsure whether he had authority over the DHS.
