Commentary: The Case for Civic Nationalism

americans

One of candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s most memorable assertions during his campaign for the Republican nomination for U.S. President was that we need to clarify what it means to be an American. He argued that Americans face a national identity crisis, as we are searching for meaning and purpose that for generations had been amply provided by faith, family, patriotism, and hard work. The challenge he put before us was to revive these values. This sentiment, coming from a second-generation Indian American, ought to be an inspiring and encouraging example of colorblind civic nationalism.

It’s amusing and a bit sad, however, that a percentage of right-wing Americans (a percentage that is grossly inflated by the media) claim that the only true Americans are those who are descended from white Europeans. This is wrong for two compelling reasons: First, because Americans like Vivek Ramaswamy are passionate and highly informed believers in the American Constitution and the importance of America’s Western European heritage, and the idea that he or his progeny would undermine that is laughable. Second, because most of the people filling the streets and fomenting leftist chaos over recent years, and who are disproportionately represented at the top of these subversive movements, are Americans who are themselves descended from white Europeans.

Commentary: The Other Fentanyl Threat Requires Readiness

It’s the nightmare scenario few in Washington want to talk about—and even fewer are prepared to confront – and that is the use of illicit fentanyl as a weapon. Although medicinal fentanyl is used safely in anesthesia, illicit fentanyl is widely known as the deadly synthetic opioid driving America’s deadly overdose crisis. Fentanyl has been, and is now, further emerging as a credible chemical weapon in the hands of state and non-state actors. The question is not whether fentanyl can be used as a weapon. It already has. The question now is whether America is taking all the appropriate steps needed to prepare for the worst. In the 118th Congress, I had proposed that illicit fentanyl be classified as a weapon of mass destruction.

Over the last several years, illicit fentanyl has been inflicted upon us through deception in drugs – both prescription and recreational. Under the previous administration, overdose deaths reached over 100,000 every year. If that is not bad enough, it can be worse.

Trump Administration Moves to Repeal Climate ‘Holy Grail’

Politico   The Trump administration on Tuesday proposed repealing the federal government’s bedrock scientific declaration on the dangers of greenhouse gases — a move that would run afoul of decades of research and topple most of the Environmental Protection Agency’s climate regulations. The rollback is the most audacious attempt yet by President Donald Trump to undo federal restrictions on fossil fuels. The so-called endangerment finding, which the Obama administration issued in 2009, laid out a comprehensive case for how human emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other greenhouse gases threaten human health and welfare. The finding serves as the legal basis for most of EPA’s climate rules, including limits on power plant and vehicle emissions — and undoing it, agency Administrator Lee Zeldin said in March, would eliminate “the holy grail of the climate change religion.” READ THE FULL STORY

Commentary: The True Roots of Transgenderism

I am writing about the pro-family movement, of course, which is witnessing a necessary resurgence in the United States. Ten years ago, the United States Supreme Court imposed one of its most egregious decisions: Obergefell v. Hodges. Blasting through constitutional amendments enacted by several states, Obergefell imposed same-sex “marriage” on the entire country. Judicial fiat, a threat to democracy, and a disturbing revision of our constitution’s foundational principles marked the reception of this disordered court decision.
