The search warrant for President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton’s office in Washington, D.C., shows that secret and confidential documents were found.
The FBI is investigating Bolton for allegedly mishandling national defense information.
According to the warrant, dated Aug. 22, there were “travel memo documents with pages labeled secret,” as well as “confidential” documents regarding “U.S. Mission to the United Nations,” “U.S. Government Strategic Communications Plan,” and weapons of mass destruction.
Laptops and other electronics were also seized in the search.
When the FBI seized classified documents at Mar-a-Lago in 2022, Bolton criticized the president. He told CBS News the way Trump handled classified documents “‘worried’ him.”
“Often, the president would say, ‘Well, can I keep this?’ And in my experience, the intelligence briefers most often would say, ‘Well sir, we’d prefer to take that back,'” Bolton told the outlet. “But sometimes they forgot.”
“My concern was that he didn’t feel that the confidentiality of much of this information was as important as we knew it to be,” Bolton added. “It just didn’t register with him that safeguarding this information for its own sake, and because of the risk to sources and methods of obtaining the intelligence, could be jeopardized.”
A judge dismissed the classified documents case against Trump in 2024.
