The FBI on Tuesday released to Judicial Watch a new series of writings by Audrey Elizabeth Hale, the transgender shooter who claimed the lives of six at the Covenant School in Nashville on March 27, 2023, including an entry, apparently dated to 2018, in which Hale claimed to have heard a male voice inside her head.
In an entry titled, “Is What I Feel A Mistake,” the killer wrote about the anguish she experienced related to “the truth about myself as to who I really am,” before claiming to have heard a male voice in her head for years.
“The sight, the cries sting my eyes [and] pierce my ears like a sharp bang of a hammer to metal,” wrote Hale. “I try to close my eyes, but the image still veils in front of my head. I try to cover my ears but it still yells at me by the top of its voice.”
The killer later revealed, “The voice is not an it. It’s a he. And this voice lies a boy who has been imprisoned in a cage for over 16 years.”
Claiming to have first heard this voice during her time as fourth grade student at the Covenant School, Hale wrote that she had recently sought to understand the voice.
“At first, I really didn’t know who he was when I was young. But now that I am a young adult, I have tried to get to know him more by giving him the chance to speak,” wrote the killer. “He wants to one day express himself once I let him out, but he is starved from vulnerability, rejection, fears of not being loved or accepted.”
She then attributed personality traits to the voice.
“He is male. He wears guy clothes. He likes girls. He is thin. He is shy, small in connection close relationships, but has a big heart,” wrote the killer. She explained, “These are feelings that I feel are what he is,” and added, “he is just like me.”
Hale later described the voice as an “imaginary boy,” but claimed that she first became aware of its existence during her time at the Covenant School, when she wrote, “he had his first crush” on “this girl who was at least 3 grades above him.”
She wrote, “He begged me to say something, but I never did. He had many butterflies that fluttered inside me.”
It is unclear whether the journal entry represents a mental health issue or creative writing, but it appears to have been written about four years before Hale told her parents she identified as a transgender man named Aiden.
Hale later expressed concern that the voice’s romantic feelings toward her female friends would jeopardize her already sparse number of friendships.
“I push him down in the cage [and] dare him to shut up. I knew a portion of my life would never be the same if they found I had feelings for them like he would,” wrote Hale.
While hearing voices is a symptom of multiple mental illnesses, including dissociative identity disorder (DID), schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder, there is no evidence that Hale was diagnosed with or received treatment for any of these.
A list prescription medications assigned to Hale, previously published by The Tennessee Star when it received various Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) files related to the case last year, instead revealed medications commonly associated with anxiety and depression.
In its final analysis of the case, MNPD claimed the killer was sane at the time of her attack.
The killer’s parents claimed she was diagnosed with autism, anxiety, social phobia, dysthymia disorder, and major depressive disorder.
In her 2023 journal, which was first published last September by The Star, Hale additionally expressed concern about being accused of having bipolar disorder.
“I’ve been anxious all last week, all day today [stressed] then I’m told I’m bi-polar by some prideful b****,” Hale wrote in 2023, complaining, “no one gets me – everyone misunderstands autism.”
Hale was a 22-year mental health patient, receiving care from Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and other providers, though it is unclear whether she addressed these concerns with medical providers. It is similarly unclear whether she considered seeking gender-affirming care at VUMC.
Both Star News Digital Media, Inc., which owns and operates The Star, and Editor-in-Chief Michael Patrick Leahy, sued the FBI in May 2023 to compel the agency to release the killer’s writings. The lawsuit was settled in June, when the FBI pledged to release much of the killer’s writings, and consolidated the lawsuit by Leahy and SNDM under the separate case brought by Judicial Watch.

Whether true or not, I cannot help but to see a pattern emerging regarding these trans shooter incidents. In the most recent two shootings, the shooter’s were both described very similarly – not very popular among their peers, shy, quiet, very few, if any friends, possibly being treated with medication(s) for anxiety, depression, ADHD, ADD, or other mental or emotional issues, and in both of these cases, the kids thought, OR WERE TOLD, AND CONVINCED, that “becoming the opposite sex” would be, not just A solution, but THE ONLY SOLUTION. THAT, is pure insanity! These children have NOT EVEN HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GROW UP, NOT PHYSICALLY, NOT MENTALLY, NOR EMOTIONALLY, yet these Counselors, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists, who have bought into both the fantasy, AND the fallacy, that ANY animal, let alone our Human animal, ie; Homo Sapien, can CHANGE their innate biological SEX from XX to XY or XY to XX is the BIGGEST LIE EVER TOLD TO HUMAN BEINGS!! Don’t even get me started on the second part of the entire sex change HOAX, that one’s “gender” and one’s “sex” are two entirely separate and distinct things. They claim that a person’s “sex” is their immutable XX or XY chromosomes that EVERY biological cell in your body holds, and that is 100% TRUE, but they have now separated your SEX AND your GENDER, and your gender can be whatever your fantasy filled mind WANTS it to be. Male, female, unicorn, cow, mouse fish, crow, pig, you name it! Biology NO LONGER MATTERS to society. Unless, of course one of your innate sexual organs develops Cancer, then you can’t really expect your physican to treat your your real ovarian/uterine cancer on your fake testicles, or inject you medicines designed specifically for bird diseases, or cow, sheep, pig, or fantasy unicorn diseases just because you you “identify” as one.
Was the killer on psycho-active drugs like SSRIs, SNRIs, or stimulants like Ritalin or Adderall?
