Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday announced that he had filed an amendment to force the release of government files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation.

“I just filed an amendment on the Senate Floor to REQUIRE the Attorney General to release the Epstein files,” he said. “Republicans will HAVE TO vote on it. We’re going to keep fighting until these files are released.”

Democrats have attempted to capitalize on voter frustration with the Trump administration’s widely panned handling of the case, though they have thus far failed to gain momentum on the issue.

Even should Schumer’s amendment secure Senate support, it is unlikely to clear the House or survive a presidential veto.

In the House, Representatives Ro Khanna (D-CA-17) and Thomas Massie (R-KY-04) introduced the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which sought to have the Department of Justice release all the files it had pertaining to Epstein. According to Spectrum News1, Khanna and Massie are two representatives short of the number needed to utilize a discharge petition, which would allow House members to vote on the topic.

This week, the House Oversight Committee released a book celebrating Epstein’s 50th birthday. The book allegedly contains letters from President Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and others.

The White House announced on Tuesday that it would support a forensic analysis of Trump’s alleged letter to Epstein.
