Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) introduced a House Joint Resolution on Thursday that would amend the U.S. Constitution allowing a U.S. president to serve three terms.
Ogles’ proposed amendment to the Constitution, as written in the two-page resolution, would read:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.
In order for the Constitution to be amended, Ogles’ resolution must be passed by a two-thirds majority vote in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The resolution must then be ratified by at least 38 out of the 50 U.S. states to become part of the Constitution.
While Ogles’ proposed constitutional amendment would apply to all former and future U.S. presidents, the Tennessee congressman said he specifically introduced the resolution in an effort to allow President Donald Trump the “necessary time” to accomplish his goal of “reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness.”
“It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration. President Trump has shown time and time again that his loyalty lies with the American people and our great nation above all else. He is dedicated to restoring the republic and saving our country, and we, as legislators and as states, must do everything in our power to support him,” Ogles said.
The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which was ratified on February 27, 1951, currently prohibits anyone who has been elected president twice from being elected again:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
The only president in U.S. history to serve more than two four-year terms was 32nd U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who served from 1933 until his death in 1945.

We need to allow President Trump time to clean the swamp and Make America Great Again to protect our Constitution, citizens and country. I’m all for giving President Trump a third term he deserves it after all he has gone through to save our country.
President Trump really does deserves a third term after how he was treated and held back his first term and the stolen election. President Trump has been treated very unfairly,
Why don’t we just load our guns and install him anyway,
The government has never tried to obey the Constitution before, why should we??
The Bill of Rights is part of that Constitution that can’t be changed or amendment except by the Amendment process, yet both Nashville and Washington has legislated a whole library of laws changing and amending the Bill of Rights.
One “instrument of good’ is as good as the other if both are UN-Constitutional, aren’t they????
“IF in the opinion of the people the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, (though it) may be the “instrument of good”, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed.
G.Washington’s Farewell Address.
Supporting one case and denying another is the best way to cause division and fighting of Government by the people, destroying the government/Country.
Yes, I’d like to see Trump get “TWO” terms uninterrupted by false accusations.
This kind of resolution is a waste of space in a publication as outstanding as The Tennessee Star. I’ve seen this stuff every time a strong incumbent reaches their term limit. A constitutional amendment is very difficult to achieve. The ERA was the last one to be attempted, and it did not pass. Arnold Schwarzenegger Is a naturalized citizen and served as Governor of California from 2003 to 2011. Near the end of his term a resolution was put forward to change the constitution to allow him to run for POTUS. That amendment attempt never got off the ground either. By the way, Trump wants a constitutional amendment regarding birthright–that ain’t gonna happen either. I supported Trump the 1st time and have again this time round, but some things are just not attainable regardless of desire. Comment from the Pacific Northwest
i like ogles, but pass. i want vance 2028.
i want term limits for congress.
Elections elect both parties, now matter much we like or don’t like it. With Vance as V.P. the conservatives should have a good, young candidate in place. Two terms are enough.Make your efforts towards getting term limits for house and senate members. Not likely, with the votes needed by Congress to send it to the states for reification.
I don`t understand the cries for “Term Limits” when it is up to the voters as to whom they choose to represent them, whether in Federal or State office. Most of the people who holler for term limits want the limits on someone who is not their representative. If the people of California keep electing Nancy Pelosi, that`s their choice. I like Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Sen. Bill Hagerty and intend to keep voting for them as long as they are doing what I consider the right thing. I didn`t vote for Bill Lee the second time because he`s not doing what I consider the right things. Of course, this is only MY opinion.
Trump would be 82 at that point. Too old to be POTUS.
Depends on his health and mental acuity. I`ve known men in their 90`s who were sharp as a tack. It`s a decision he, and the voters, can make. As long as an election is not rigged,… as in the case of Joe Biden.
