TN-7 Candidate Lee Reeves Slams California Governor for ‘Reckless’ Sanctuary State Policies

Tennessee State Representative Lee Reeves (R-Franklin), who is seeking the Republican nomination in the race for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, is criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom for maintaining “reckless” sanctuary state policies.

“Newsom’s reckless policies, like granting licenses to illegal aliens, incentivize illegal immigration and undermine election integrity,” Reeves said in a statement.

“His failure to address the chaos caused by illegal immigration puts American families at risk. President Trump’s vision for secure borders is the solution, and I’m proud to stand with him to protect our communities,” Reeves added.

Reeves’ statement comes days after an Indian national semi-truck driver, who is in the country illegally, attempted an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike and caused a minivan to crash into the truck’s trailer, which resulted in three deaths.

Preliminary findings of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s investigation into the accident has revealed that the illegal alien semi-truck driver was issued a regular full-term Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Washington state and a limited-term/non-domiciled CDL in California.

“While Newsom obstructs federal immigration enforcement and coddles criminals, I’m fighting for Tennessee families by strengthening our laws and supporting President Trump’s commitment to restoring order. Tennessee will remain a beacon of law and order, and I’ll continue to champion policies that put America first,” Reeves said.

Reeves has made tackling illegal immigration a central focus of his campaign’s policy priorities.

The first piece of legislation Reeves said he would introduce if elected to Congress would work to end birthright citizenship for children born to illegal aliens on U.S. soil.

Reeves has also called for penalizing sanctuary jurisdictions that obstruct federal immigration enforcement, whether it be through steep fines or the loss of federal funding.

During the most recent legislative session of the Tennessee General Assembly, Reeves introduced and passed a bill making it a Class B misdemeanor offense to operate a motor vehicle in Tennessee with an invalid driver’s license.

The bill, HB749, further designates out-of-state driver licenses issued exclusively to illegal aliens as invalid driver licenses.

Reeves has also encouraged all of Tennessee’s 95 counties to enter into 287(g) agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
