TN-7 U.S. Rep. Matt Van Epps Receives Committee Assignments for 119th Congress

Newly elected Tennessee U.S. Representative Matt Van Epps (R-TN-07) has been assigned to serve on the U.S. House Committees on Homeland Security and Science, Space, and Technology for the 119th Congress.

Van Epps succeeds his predecessor, retired Congressman Mark Green, in joining the Homeland Security Committee. Green was elected chair of the committee in 2023, making history as the only member of Congress this century to assume leadership of a major legislative committee at the beginning of a third term.

Green also made history as chairman of the committee by leading two historic articles of impeachment against then-sitting U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The House Homeland Security Committee, now chaired by New York U.S. Representative Andrew Garbarino (R-NY-02), focuses on legislation and oversight related to national security.

The Science, Space, and Technology Committee oversees non-defense federal science and technology and focuses on legislation related to energy research, space exploration, environmental science, AI, quantum computing, and STEM workforce development.

Van Epps said he was “honored” to serve on the two “key” committees that play a direct role in shaping the “safety, growth, and future” of Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District.

“These assignments give me the opportunity to work on legislation that protects our communities, keeps our borders secure, strengthens our economy, and ensures Tennessee’s Seventh District has a strong voice in shaping our nation’s future,” Van Epps said in a statement.

“Our district is full of hardworking Tennesseans who want safe communities, good-paying jobs, and opportunities for the next generation. I look forward to serving on these committees to fight for the values and priorities of the people of Tennessee’s Seventh District and to deliver real results for our communities and for our country,” he added.
