U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles Moves to Revert Senate-Passed ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Back to House-Approved Version

Tennessee U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) introduced an amendment following the U.S. Senate’s passage of the White House-backed “big beautiful bill” on Tuesday that would revert the Senate-passed version of the bill back to the version the House approved in May.

Several changes were made to the budget reconciliation bill in the Senate, which voted 51-50 with the help of Vice President JD Vance as the tie-breaking vote, after the Senate parliamentarian advised senators Sunday that several provisions in the bill violated the chamber’s rules for budget reconciliation bills.

As a result, Ogles said the bill should be revised back to the version the House passed in May and be additionally debated.

“I just filed an amendment to delete their dud and replace it with the strong House bill we passed weeks ago,” Ogles wrote in an X post.

“The Senate’s version of the Big Beautiful Bill guts key Trump provisions—all at the behest of an unelected parliamentarian,” Ogles added.

Ogles’ amendment reads:

Strike all after the enacting clause and insert the text of H.R. 1 as passed by the House of Representatives on May 22, 2025.

After the Senate voted to pass the budget reconciliation bill, President Donald Trump called on members in the House to “stay united” and work to pass the bill before Friday, July 4.

“There is so much to be proud of [in the bill], and EVERYONE got a major Policy WIN…We can have all of this right now, but only if the House GOP UNITES, ignores its occasional “GRANDSTANDERS” (You know who you are!), and does the right thing, which is sending this Bill to my desk,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

Shortly after Trump’s Truth Social post, Ogles defended his amendment calling for the Senate-passed version of the bill to be reverted, arguing, “That’s how our founders designed the system.”

“If the House doesn’t pass the Senate’s version of the OBBB, then it turns into legislative ping-pong. But that’s okay…Like I’ve been saying for weeks: let’s STAY IN DC and get it RIGHT for the American People. No recess for unfinished work. We can do a big, beautiful BBQ in front of the Capitol as we crank out America-first legislation,” Ogles added.
