U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05) laid it all on the line Tuesday afternoon in supporting a motion to vacate to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-23) from the post he has tenuously held for less than a year.

“Speaker McCarthy has failed to demonstrate himself as an effective leader who will change the status quo. He has gone against many of the promises he made in January and can no longer be trusted at the helm,” Biggs said.

Tennessee Lawmakers Propose Increasing Teacher Classroom Supply Deduction Limit to $1K

U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tennessee, is a co-sponsor of bipartisan legislation to increase the amount schoolteachers can deduct for classroom supplies to $1,000 per year.

Catholic Civil Rights Leader Requests Nashville Police Department Release Covenant Killer’s Manifesto

Catholic League President Bill Donohue is asking Nashville police to produce the manifesto they said they found among transgender shooter Audrey Hale’s belongings.

“The local police said she was planning the attack ‘over a period of months,’ and that she had studied other mass murderers,” wrote Donohue Monday. “They emphasized that the attack was ‘calculated and planned.’ Importantly, they found a manifesto that laid bare her thinking.”

Tennessee Republicans React to the Total Arrests CBP Made at Southern Border in Fiscal Year 2022

In a statement released on Monday, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol announced over 1.82 million arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border for Fiscal Year 2022 and several Tennessee Republican leaders were quick to voice their displeasure with the statistic.

In comparison, there were 1,662,167 arrests in Fiscal Year 2021 and 405,036 for Fiscal Year 2020, the last year of former President Trump’s term.

Tennessee’s Representatives Split on Party Lines for $2K CASH Act: Republicans Vote No, Both Democrats Vote Yes

The U.S. House passed the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Cash (CASH Act) last evening; Tennessee’s representatives faced a partisan split on the bill. The act tacks on $1,400 to the $600 payments within the massive year-end package signed by President Trump on Sunday.

The CASH Act passed in the House with a majority of 275 to 134, and 21 abstained from voting. One of the representatives who abstained their vote was Representative David (Phil) Roe (R-TN-01). Of all House Republicans, 44 voted for the act, and 130 voted against it.

Tennessee’s Congress Members Rushed to Issue Same-Day Vote on the 5600 Page Stimulus Bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi scheduled a vote Monday evening for a hefty bill dropped on Congress earlier that same day. The spending bill totals nearly 5,600 pages.

The bill was unavailable prior to this afternoon, a delay reportedly caused by “computer glitch[es].” In addition to the $900 billion in pandemic stimulus spending, the bill includes $1.4 trillion for other expenditures.

Knoxville Airport Gets More Federal Funding

  U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, representing Tennessee’s Second Congressional District, announced on his Twitter page Friday that McGhee Tyson Airport, outside Knoxville, will receive a $10.6 million grant via federal taxpayers. According to Burchett, the funds will go to reconstruct the airport’s runway. “This is great news for our community and local economy, and I appreciate the administration funding this request,” Burchett said. According to the Knoxville-based WATE.com, the U.S. Department of Transportation gave out the taxpayer money. “McGhee Tyson Airport is a first-class facility that continues to break passenger records, and this grant will help the airport continue to be an important economic driver by improving and expanding its existing infrastructure,” the station quoted Burchett as saying. According to the station, the agency awards grants to public agencies and sometimes private owners and entities to plan and develop public-use airports. According to WBIR.com, airport officials announced changes to infrastructure in May. The station also said the last concrete slab for a 10,000-foot runway is poured, but the project is not done. “This grant continues the work with the Airfield Modernization Program including the runway. We appreciate the Congressman’s continued support of the airport,” the station quoted McGhee Tyson Airport…
