Tennessee State House Passes Bill Mandating Minors Use Bathrooms Based on Biological Sex, Not Transgender Identity

Girls Room

The Tennessee State House on Monday passed legislation that would mandate schools, and other public programs offered to minors, to segregate their bathrooms based on biological sex, which would disallow use of facilities based on an individual identifying as transgender.

House Bill (HB) 64 by State Representative Gino Bulso (R-Brentwood) would require Tennessee educational programs for minor students segregate bathroom, shower, and changing facilities based on the biological gender of the student, prohibiting the consideration of a transgender identity, for any “residential educational program” in Tennessee.

City of Phoenix Accused of Violating the Arizona Constitution with Tax Increase

Phoenix City Hall

The City of Phoenix is planning on raising taxes on businesses that provide services in order to pay for an alleged revenue shortfall. However, the Goldwater Institute (GI) sent Phoenix officials a letter on March 6 warning them that the Arizona Constitution does not allow any new taxes or tax increases on “services.” GI said the tax increase would “rais[e] the prices of services like construction, contracting, and lodging.”

Article IX, Section 25 of the Arizona Constitution provides, “The state, any county, city, town, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision of the state … shall not impose or increase any sales tax, transaction privilege tax, luxury tax, excise tax, use tax, or any other transaction-based tax, fee, stamp requirement or assessment on the privilege to engage in, or the gross receipts of sales or gross income derived from, any service performed in this state.”

Commentary: The Left Doesn’t Have Solutions for the Problems It Creates

Biden Ukraine

The Wall Street Journal has consistently criticized Trump’s economic policies, particularly his ongoing “trade war” with Canada, over the past several weeks. And certainly, the tensions are regrettable. Trump’s trolling of the insufferable Justin Trudeau, with talk of Canada becoming the “51st state,” perhaps only galvanized the Canadian left. It unfortunately may ensure that the only real hope for a Canadian return to normality, the election of Pierre Poilievre, may be lost.

That said, does the WSJ truly believe that the current $1.7 trillion budget deficit stacked on top of $36 trillion in national debt and an annual $1 trillion trade deficit are sustainable in any fashion? Do they believe any Republican president would have survived the midterms if he cut or “reformed” Social Security? If so, consult the fate of the recommendations of left-wing Barack Obama’s 2010 Simpson-Bowles commission (“The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform”).
