Memphis May See 120 New State Troopers Under Proposed Tennessee Department of Safety Budget

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) is requesting more than $16 million in new funding for Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) troopers, supervisors, and support staff positions, which will reportedly allow the agency to station more than 100 additional troopers in Memphis. 

In the material prepared for its 2026-2027 budget meeting with Governor Bill Lee, TDOSHS requested an additional $16.7 million in funding for the state troopers, representing nearly a 40 percent increase over the $26.9 million in recurring funding for these positions. The state agency seeks about $43.5 million in total spending for troopers and related roles.

Elon Musk’s Boring Company Prepares to Send Specialty Equipment for Music City Loop in Nashville

Elon Musk’s Boring Company announced on Sunday that it was conducting its final tests on the unique tunneling equipment that will be used to bore the Music City Loop, a point-to-point transportation project that will connect the Nashville International Airport to downtown Nashville.

The Boring Company announced in a post to Musk’s social media platform, X, that its first-ever “hard rock” Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was undergoing its final tests before being sent to Nashville, which will be the company’s first experience boring through hard rock.

The standoff fueling the record-setting government shutdown centered on Democrats’ refusal to budge on extending enhanced Obamacare premium subsidies, which they passed in 2021 without GOP support and set to expire at the end of 2025. Discharge Petition to Force House Vote on Epstein Files Succeeds with Grijalva’s Signature

The Hill   A discharge petition for a bill to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein got enough signatures Wednesday to force action on the matter, setting the stage for a future clash on the House floor over the convicted sex offender. Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) became the 218th and final signature on the discharge petition shortly after she was sworn in Wednesday. She joined all other Democrats and four Republicans: Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.) and Nancy Mace (S.C.).   Grijalva signed the petition on the House floor immediately after being sworn in as Democrats in the chamber cheered and two Epstein survivors looked on from the gallery. Judge Orders ICE to Release 300 Plus Detained Immigrants

Axios   District Judge Jeffrey Cummings on Wednesday afternoon ordered the release of at least 313 people detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement between June and early October. This outcome, in response to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU of Illinois and the National Immigrant Justice Center, validates some of the recent accusations of ICE violations and could create a template for other legal action across the country. Cummings has ordered the Department of Homeland Security to immediately release 13 detainees held in Texas, Missouri and other states that both the government and plaintiffs agree were detained in violation of the Castañon Nava settlement that prohibits warrantless immigration arrest in Illinois. Spy Agencies Cozied Up to Wuhan Virologist Before Lying About Pandemic

A close collaborator of virologists who studied coronaviruses in Wuhan frequently advised America’s top spy agency in the lead-up to the pandemic, and that same agency suppressed intelligence on the parallels between COVID-19 and their research.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s (ODNI) hub for foreign biological threats dismissed the intelligence pointing to a lab accident in Wuhan as “misinformation” in January 2021, two former government sources who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive internal meetings told the Daily Caller News Foundation. New documents show that intelligence risked implicating ODNI’s own bioengineering advisor — University of North Carolina professor Ralph Baric.

Commentary: The COVID Failure Haunting Gov. Hochul

Recently Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that New York was joining 14 other states in a “nonpartisan initiative” (though all 15 states have Democratic governors) called the Governors Public Health Alliance, a “coordinating hub for governors and their public health leaders and a unified, cross-state liaison with the global health community. The Alliance also provides a platform for governors to exchange best practices, align policies, and coordinate on issues like vaccine access, emergency response and health security.” 

Despite claiming the GPHA is “nonpartisan,” Hochul’s press release is anything but: “From undermining vaccine access and abortion rights to slashing billions in Medicaid funding from those in need, the federal government is wreaking havoc on public health and the institutions we rely on.”
